Nazi concentration camp prisoner population by year

ICE is currently holding around 80,000 detainees. Nazi Germany didn't reach this number in its formal camp system until 1942, nine years after seizing power and three years into the war.

Mysterious Little Beings Really Do Live In Hawaiian Fig Trees The menehune of legend may not live in fig trees β€” but something just as elusive and enigmatic does.

I did the same (for less intense but similar reasons) 5 years ago: best decision ever. Many doctors worried I was too young but I have recovered most of my life again, though I don't dare ski anymore. Good for her for trailblazing yet again!

Let Your Kids Fail Early exposure to setbacks can help children confront later disappointments without falling apart.

Short read about allowing children to fail small to learn how to psychologically survive larger setbacks in life later on. Good callout to Martens' book. As in games, losing does not make the child a Loser for good, though the temporary pain stems from that fear.

She showed up at our rehearsal & set up for practice as do other invited n00bs. Suddenly she tried to directly appeal to the orchestra that she 'deserved' the seat accorded a shy newcomer & refused to leave even though never invited. Security called in. Poor new guy could barely play after that.

I was kind of a Red Sox fan by osmosis but left the area well before 2004 :-/ missed that fun but still remember the disappointment in 1986. But I was living in Paris for the World Cup 1998. That was a blast for similar reasons. The crueler the preceding disappointments, the more joy later.

But the work hearing key have continues. Warming up in the car, writing in pencil – pink ink freezes – by headlamp.”

This initial tweet is quote-tweeted with the text β€œ I was just laid off by the Washington Post in the middle of a warzone. I have no words. I’m devastated.”

If you want a little extra motivation, you can visit the island that inspired Dumas' (and adaptations thereafter) prison scenes offshore in Marseille. Only about a 15-minute boat ride to this national monument but I wouldn't have liked to have to swim it, especially initially constrained underwater!

This is another corollary of "power corrupts". It starts by eating away at the bases for attaining it. Many people just coast thereafter, enjoying/defending the fruits of their earlier accomplishments rather than planting new trees. Look for us late bloomers, who had no time to get good at that.

In a linguistics-tangential thread, allow me to suggest you may have meant "revel" πŸ˜‰ although for sure, there are those who were envious and worse, probably smaller-scales abuses of power to this day. If anything, the friendly wink-wink of all these powerful men is emetic 🀒

I didn't know either, but Peter was a creep and did jail time for it. Power really perverts the weak-minded.
