She showed up at our rehearsal & set up for practice as do other invited n00bs. Suddenly she tried to directly appeal to the orchestra that she 'deserved' the seat accorded a shy newcomer & refused to leave even though never invited. Security called in. Poor new guy could barely play after that.

Tonight a new bassoonist showed up at our wind orchestra rehearsal and it was deeply cringe for reasons I will only take the time to explain if you are curious and ask about it.

I was kind of a Red Sox fan by osmosis but left the area well before 2004 :-/ missed that fun but still remember the disappointment in 1986. But I was living in Paris for the World Cup 1998. That was a blast for similar reasons. The crueler the preceding disappointments, the more joy later.

If you want a little extra motivation, you can visit the island that inspired Dumas' (and adaptations thereafter) prison scenes offshore in Marseille. Only about a 15-minute boat ride to this national monument but I wouldn't have liked to have to swim it, especially initially constrained underwater!
