Ha! I remember the reviews at the time dismissing it as a Prince ripoff. But itโ€™s a really weird and funny Prince ripoff. It definitely does its own thing as well.

Iโ€™m finding it hard to assess where wig procurement and distribution sits within the production timeline. Is this is a good thing or a bad thing?

Itโ€™s not a real chicken. Itโ€™s just an elaborate ruse to smuggle US diplomats out of the chip shop.

CHRISTMAS SPECIAL OUT NOW!

Exclusively for supporters of the Broken Veil channel.

The original โ€œGhost Story for Christmasโ€ (except not): Jonathan Millerโ€™s 1968 โ€˜Whistle And Iโ€™ll Come To Youโ€™ is muttering and flapping and slowly mooing its way down the beachโ€ฆ

As the drop-off in physical media means less behind the scenes features and making-of documentaries, we just have to make do with these small accidental glimpses into the creative process.

I just noticed the similarity between the ending of Everybody Hurts and You Canโ€™t Always Get What You Want. Also Beckโ€™s Lonesome Tears. All those rising chords. Pretty solid way to end a song I reckon.

To my eye the latest upscale has given things a puffy, wobbly look which I associate with generative AI. Visual features seem to run into each other where theyโ€™ve been interpolated and generated by the algorithm. But then youโ€™ll always get weird stuff when you freeze frame digital.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: Learning from Stoppard
By Mike Fitzgerald, June 13, 2016

Comparing two drafts of a script can be hugely instructive, revealing point-by-point how a writer went about improving the story. When I stumbled upon an earlier draft of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, I discovered a dazzling, glittering trove of lessons as nourishing as eternal life itself. Well, nearly so.

Last Crusade was written by Jeffrey Boam, from a story by George Lucas and Menno Meyjes. So say the opening credits. Boamโ€™s final draft, dated March 1, 1988 (ten weeks before production) differs drastically from the published script which reflects the released version of the film. Differences come as no shock, but with Last Crusade they arenโ€™t just a few deleted scenes and some line changes. Whole sections of the Boam draft were reimagined, major set pieces were added, and the pacing and tone were markedly transformed. Whoever made these changes possessed a profound grasp of story craft.

Nine years ago Mike Fitzgerald wrote up an extraordinarily fascinating breakdown of the differences between the Tom Stoppard shooting script and the original Jeffrey Boam draft of Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.
