I also prefer not to be barefoot in some else’s home but since everyone I know are also shoes off people, I will usually go over wearing socks.

That would usually make it easier when carrying a cooler.

Even if I go to a party in someone’s backyard and I have to go through the house, I take my shoes off, carry them with me, then put them back on before stepping back outside.
