Judge forced to slash SF jury pool over hate for Elon Musk One candidate said he thinks sending Elon Musk to prison would benefit humanity.

“In a criminal trial, I would feel morally obligated to convict, however, in a civil trial I could set those views aside,” adding, “I believe it would be to the benefit of the human race for Mr. Musk to be sent to prison.”

Kids don't study the classics anymore. When was the last time you heard someone under 30 say "Euripides nuts"?

Going forward I shall call myself part of the Patsy Mink Generation, those of us sporty girls who had Title IX literally come into force while we were in high school & thus, like me, got to play in the very first OR high school girls' state basketball tournament (1976) because Title IX mandated it.

American understanding of geography and stuff:

Asia means East Asia
Pakistan is in the Middle East
India is neither but instead is its own thing, there’s a billion people there they get special status
Unclear what Bangladesh is, unsure if it’s even real
Indonesia is the Philippines

An AI CEO finally said something honest
(Meta
Dax Raad from anoma.ly might be the only CEO speaking honestly about Al right now.
His most recent take:
"everyone's talking about their teams like they were at the peak of efficiency and bottlenecked by ability to produce code
here's what things actually look like
- your org rarely has good ideas. ideas being expensive to implement was actually helping
- majority of workers have no reason to be super motivated, they want to do their 9-5 and get back to their life
- they're not using Al to be 10x more effective they're using it to churn out their tasks with less energy spend
- the 2 people on your team that actually tried are now flattened by the slop code everyone is producing, they will quit soon
- even when you produce work faster you're still bottlenecked by bureaucracy and the dozen other realities of shipping something real
- your CFO is like what do you mean each engineer now costs $2000 extra per month in LLM bills"

In the late 1960's I attended a Catholic pre-school and kindergarten that taught us a song that went

"Jesus loves the little children
All the children of the world
Red, brown, yellow, black, and white
They are precious in His sight"

And then years later Conservatives got mad that I believe it.

Oh wait, there was another update at 7:00am:

"
7a Waimea Kohala Mt Rd/N Kohala update: ~2123 customers remain without power as crews will need to safely complete investigations in the daylight hours. This outage is NOT PSPS or Public Safety Power Shutoff. Mahalo for your patience.
"

So, no news :(

it’s really annoying that the ‘defund the police’ conversation in the mainstream is only ever “should we have more or less police officers?” and not the “police officers shouldn’t be armed with riot gear and tanks and also can kill people” conversation

One of the things that personally drives me crazy in the U.S. is how youth sports/athletic activities went from a part of the public good (municipal leagues and fields! rec centers! public parks!) to a privatized, expensive, highly competitive, highly structured pursuit for wealthy kids’ résumés

“AI is the future“ Sorry if I don’t believe this from companies who recommend me more washing machines after I buy a washing machine and ask me to review items that I attached gift messages to and sent to different addresses than my billing.
