Angry sun in the Lower Mainland, friends.

Camera Obscura Play β€œLloyd, I’m Ready to be Heartbroken” The pop music answer song. Sometimes they refute what an artist has said. At other times, they validate the song to which they respond. Camera Obscura's "Lloyd, I'm Ready to be Heartbroken" namechecks Lloyd Cole and his song of a similar title. What do both songs say about love and what happens when people fall into it?

Why do fools fall in love? It's a prime pop music question. Lloyd Cole & the Commotions put out a song about that in 1984. By 2006, Camera Obscura did the same in answer to Cole's track. So, what's the conclusion? Is love worth the heartbreak?

I Believe in You (1997 Remaster)
YouTube video by Talk Talk - Topic I Believe in You (1997 Remaster)

Sunday morning listening: Talk Talk's "I Believe in You". Along with the album off of which it comes, this tune helped to establish post-rock as a genre before that term was widely used. Mostly, it was looked upon as commercial suicide. But today, it sounds almost like a gospel song.

The theme song to *Gilligan's Island* modulates keys 4 times. I only just noticed that recently.

That was sillier and too full of stuff they wanted to jam in there. Typical sequel stuff. But it had its moments.

Well, that was silly and fun. More like an 80s film in a way. Ill-advisedly, I have just begun to watch Happy Gilmore 2.

I'm about to watch *Happy Gilmore* (1996), a Nineties comedy I've never seen. And I'm *from* the Nineties.

I'm not sure this is my final answer. But I love *The Man With Two Brains* (1983), which also features Kathleen Turner in one of my favourite roles of hers.

Tonight's movie is *Taladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby* (2006) with Will Farrell, John C. Reilly, Amy Adams, and Sacha Baron Cohen. This is a movie I shouldn't love. I will say this: it hits differently in the Tr*mp era.

""Whatta Man” pulls no punches as to what it’s about. En Vogue’s amazing push-pull melodic interjections counterbalances Salt-N-Pepa’s flow in a song of in praise of a good man who knows what his responsibilities are as they naturally flow out of his strength of character and strong sense of self."

Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue Perform β€œWhattaΒ Man” As two forces to be reckoned with by 1993, Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue's "Whatta Man" was nearly guaranteed to be a hit. Beyond how sexy it is, it has some powerful things to say about what a woman deserves as much as it does about manhood, and perhaps more.

Based on an obscure 1960s Stax soul number, Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue's "Whatta Man" is as full of cultural gravity as it is pure sexiness. What does it say about manhood? And what does it also say about what a woman deserves from a man?

I *love* the Bourne films. Every time I watch them though, I am more and more aware of how careerism and compliance - smart people doing their jobs very well in support of horrifying agendas - is a thing in them, and in the real world, too.

Yesterday as I was tooling around the grocery store, and in the absence of music on the PA, this tune unexpectedly just popped in there; a genre-ambiguous pop music gem from the late 1970s. I guess it's kind of power pop-ish? Sorta?

Kids are wild man, our 3yo URGENTLY needed to be a cyclops so he drew an eyeball then spent afternoon in full character as β€œMike Wazowski” pretending to be meeting us for the first time, walking around the store with a paper plate strapped to his face calling me Robert asking me if I have any kids
