Camera Obscura Play “Lloyd, I’m Ready to be Heartbroken” The pop music answer song. Sometimes they refute what an artist has said. At other times, they validate the song to which they respond. Camera Obscura's "Lloyd, I'm Ready to be Heartbroken" namechecks Lloyd Cole and his song of a similar title. What do both songs say about love and what happens when people fall into it?

Why do fools fall in love? It's a prime pop music question. Lloyd Cole & the Commotions put out a song about that in 1984. By 2006, Camera Obscura did the same in answer to Cole's track. So, what's the conclusion? Is love worth the heartbreak?

Sunday morning listening: Talk Talk's "I Believe in You". Along with the album off of which it comes, this tune helped to establish post-rock as a genre before that term was widely used. Mostly, it was looked upon as commercial suicide. But today, it sounds almost like a gospel song.

The theme song to *Gilligan's Island* modulates keys 4 times. I only just noticed that recently.

Well, that was silly and fun. More like an 80s film in a way. Ill-advisedly, I have just begun to watch Happy Gilmore 2.

I'm about to watch *Happy Gilmore* (1996), a Nineties comedy I've never seen. And I'm *from* the Nineties.

I'm not sure this is my final answer. But I love *The Man With Two Brains* (1983), which also features Kathleen Turner in one of my favourite roles of hers.

Tonight's movie is *Taladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby* (2006) with Will Farrell, John C. Reilly, Amy Adams, and Sacha Baron Cohen. This is a movie I shouldn't love. I will say this: it hits differently in the Tr*mp era.

Yesterday as I was tooling around the grocery store, and in the absence of music on the PA, this tune unexpectedly just popped in there; a genre-ambiguous pop music gem from the late 1970s. I guess it's kind of power pop-ish? Sorta?

It is Mike Wazowski, a cyclops we met at the store. It is definitely not our son iO wearing a circle of paper on his face with an eyeball drawn on it.

Kids are wild man, our 3yo URGENTLY needed to be a cyclops so he drew an eyeball then spent afternoon in full character as “Mike Wazowski” pretending to be meeting us for the first time, walking around the store with a paper plate strapped to his face calling me Robert asking me if I have any kids
