I’m usually giving counsel of despair so let me offer a hopeful note now: all this is the desperate thrashing of a dying generation, horrified to see up close the consequences of raising their children to believe violence and racism are wrong, and that people should treat each other decently.

Why are these uppity students demanding we move the statue of the slaver, why are people willing to vote against brutal austerity, why are the transgenders *at all*, on and on, and the only explanation is: Demons have infected the public via their mobile phones.

The thing is, "Dispensing false information in a confident tone" is something our culture is currently built around.
It's constantly excused and handwaved away largely because it sells better than honesty.
It's rife in television and publishing and even universities.
They paved the way for this.

The “Pathways” trial is, IMO on more than one level, a thoroughly unethical piece of “research” to be carrying out on children, especially children who are part of a marginalised minority.

Already seeing some terrible takes on here about supporting science re the puberty blocker trial.

Science that is unethical & designed terribly, influenced by those who don't want us to exist, is never ever going to lead to useful outcomes.

& this trial will cause immense harm to participants.

I've never seen the point. Search algorithms already spew out a lot of nonsense, translation software is already really bad, I've known the kind of people who worked in developing this stuff and they're consistently self important gobshites who don't understand things like bias and interpretation

When genAI is used, on however small a part of the project, it is absolute proof that the person is willing to slather hot dogshit on the parts of the project they give the least fucks about.

They already did, you can see right there where they did it. It stands out for being so fucking sloppy.

The key thing about generative AI is that it is used by people who don't give a fuck about the output, and can't be fucked to learn.
