Dumb AI use in schools set to do wonders for the lazy teacher trope. And yes, I know teachers are overworked: I was. But rushing to use AI is the worst possible answer to this problem.

I think we’re on the cusp of mass attempts to automate teaching, and I also think it is going to be a massive wasteful failure in ways that will make the “learning loss” of the pandemic look like a speed bump next to a mountain.

People *without* executive dysfunction are finding that using chatgpt buries them under multitasking: they have to expend more effort and attention in more tasks to check that it hasn't outputted *absolute fucking nonsense*

We have more work to do and less time to think about it because they want *our* critical thinking skills to atrophy. Can’t teach critical thinking if you’re not a critical thinker. That’s the entire point of attacking public education. Always has been.

If we don’t recognize that the system of underfunding education and constantly putting more pressure on educators to do more with less is deliberately giving *us* less time to think critically about our work, educators are missing the point.

It absolutely makes sense that men are using AI more and seeing more job benefits, because confidently spouting nonsense in the shape of information (what LLMs are programmed to do) has always been much more of a pathway for career advancement for men than for others.

And it is why we should be building mutual aid and direct action organisations; things which teach us how to take responsibility for ourselves, how to get the things we want without the state.

That is quite clearly true. You see it every time you develop a new skill.

So if you invest all your energy in organising and electioneering within the existing system - you'll become really good... at using that system and only that system. It will become your main tool.
