This is Jerry Lawson. He invented the video game cartridge for the Fairchild Channel F system. Because of his invention, many consoles had cartridges and CD formats and would become the norm.

The Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, and many consoles wouldn't exist without him.

Not if you make sure the publishing agreement ensures those rights remain with you. Never sign a boilerplate and make sure the publication is willing to modify their standard agreement before you go too far. Many places won’t, and they are not worth publishing in as a result. Keep your media rights!
