Finally, I'm getting to a question for y'all... Do you have a go-to resource for helping traditional print designers migrate to web design concepts and best practices?

I want to emphasize that I'm not questioning designer talent or capability. This is a problem of adapting from a static media type to something dynamic.

03.12.2025 15:17 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I encountered more of this in the early days of the web when traditional ad agencies were in a frenzy to adopt the web, but I still find designers entrenched in this background much harder to work with.

03.12.2025 15:16 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I always try to educate gently as I go, but these are not small shifts and require time to adjust and adapt in ways don't align with project deadlines.

03.12.2025 15:11 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

There's also a difference in tooling...adjusting from something like InDesign or Illustrator (I can do a whole other thread on why this frustrates the hell out of developers) into something more web-specific like Figma.

03.12.2025 15:09 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

There's conceptual gap (e.g., static vs. responsive), but also practical gap of general web usability and design concepts (e.g., heading levels, units of measure, color contrast and accessibility, etc.)

03.12.2025 15:08 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I've worked with a lot of talented designers that come from a traditional media/print background and struggle to adjust to web.

Good to know that Bluetooth still picks up the vinyl sound!

I'm starting a vinyl collection and want to buy a turntable. I'm not sure whether I want to connect to bluetooth or go with a wired speaker, but I want it to *sound* like vinyl and not just another digital track.

Important: I value minimalism.

I just updated my interactive blog post on CSS Grid! It now includes explanations for the `span` keyword, as well as a brief look at `grid-auto-flow`:

I occasionally will try to cancel an online service, just because I know they'll offer me a discounted price for a few months to stick around.

Recently this bit me in the butt though. They called my bluff and the cancellation went through and then I had to renew at a higher price. #failedhack

My brain is so tired (in a good way) from today’s @cloudfestusa.bsky.social hackathon, I don’t have the energy to post something unique here, so I just give you my post on LinkedIn. πŸ€“

Also, if you're curious what we're building at #CFHack, @fair.pm and @patchstack.com are teaming up on the FAIR Software Security Assistant, an open-source tool that automates vulnerability checks and policy enforcement for FAIR repositories.

@raemorey.bsky.social has a great writeup. πŸ‘‡

I've used Clarity.fm for years as a pay-by-the-minute consulting platform, but the service is meh. Phone call quality is consistently poor and there's no online meeting option (gimme some screen share ability!).

I don't do a ton of these calls, but I need a better solution. What do you use?
