The govt promised local content quotas for streamers back in 2019 – but 55,000 Aussie screen industry jobs are still at risk. France, Italy and others have acted. Why hasn’t Australia? Sign the petition to #MakeItAustralian and #SaveAustralianStories

As a freelance TV editor I can tell you firsthand, things are dire in the industry right now. Advertisers are all going online and free-to-air budgets are getting slashed to ribbons. Nobody is buying local content it's all overseas streamers, & a lot of talented folks can no longer make a living.

Not to mention the game itself just has immaculate vibes. Creeping through deserted swamps and buildings, listening for every crack and creak, watching with held breath as a big stompy robot patrols right by my hiding spot
Hats off to the devs for such a bug free, polished launch!

I don't normally buy games on day 1, but I wanted to get in on the ARC Raiders community as it was being formed.
And it's been so fun! A lot of experienced extraction shooter players are blasting on sight, but a lot of others are chilling, joking and even helping one another. It's been great

For real. I have backed out of several shooting matches with other raiders simply because I didn't want to expend the ammo for potentially a handful of springs or something.

PM Albanese’s culture of secrecy, in three charts If he doesn’t change course, the Prime Minister may end up leading exactly the kind of 'shadow government' that he derided his predecessor for.

I got sniped last night from a mile away on a bridge and I was like... Wtf you aren't even gonna get my (mediocre) loot here, this is just griefing.
But yeah have had a few lovely wholesome interactions as well, it's a fine balance right now

To your point, I think without the looming threat of losing all your gear, that tension would be entirely absent. Hiding in a bush as a group of raiders creep past is absolutely nail biting when you've got a full pack.
Plus I love the detail in the world they've built. Just enjoying exploring.

I'm not an extraction shooter player (this is the first I've tried) and I'm absolutely loving it. The tension in every encounter keeps each round fresh. I've been shot on sight as much as I've had fun chats and team ups and arc are deadly enough to encourage people towards cooperation

I hope the community stays this open to silliness and mucking about as the game matures. I've been shot on sight as much as I've had dance-offs, and I home the incidence of the former doesn't create a distrust feedback loop

Never take seriously those who ridicule low income people for having a smartphone or laptop.

“If they’re so poor how did they buy an iPhone???”

Because they’re trying to escape poverty, not the 1700s, genius. If you think basic tech access is luxury, survive a month without it.

The usual suspects. How dare they. Late term abortions in Australia are rare and represent no more than 2% of all abortions. It's politicking. These men should sit down and shut up. #auspol

An understated reason figures like Newsom are so dangerous is because what really advances the most violently reactionary parts of the American state aren't just the openly far-right rulers, it's their successors entrenching what they did. Newsom types aren't an end to fascism but its completion. 🧵

Democracy dies by a thousand little cuts
—and liberalism's obsession w/ fascism's hypocrisy is one of them. How many times do we think we've really nailed fascists in self-contradiction only to find they don't care-& even delight in the charge, which after all is proof of power.

10th boat blown up in the Caribbean.

6 people dead this time.

Not a single arrest made.

Not an ounce recovered.

Not a shred of evidence provided.

It was so creative and exciting!
I watched the fantastic four the other night and basically called every major plot beat minutes before it happened.
One Battle had me hanging the entire time, and that car chase especially dialed up the tension magnificently

Australia’s surprise unemployment spike suggests an economy not overheating but in need of stimulus | Greg Jericho Last week’s announcement that unemployment reached 4.5% in September came as a shock to the RBA, who must have been either embarrassed – or ecstatic

“You didn’t vote for it, you weren’t even asked, but it was decided three years ago – mostly by those the Reserve Bank – that Australia needed an extra 150,000 or so people to be unemployed.”

My column on unemployment hitting 4.5%

I have to stress how highly unusual it is for the most powerful military on the planet to be blowing up random boats in international waters.

I can’t help but feel that several criminal charges will ultimately come from these strikes.

It makes far more sense to interdict them.

34 people killed in 50 days. Their guilt or innocence unknown, for an alleged crime that doesn't carry a death sentence. That's a lot of death.
