Political violence disproportionately hurts people with less power, not people with more power. Political violence will disproportionately hurt people of color and women and LGBTQ people. It’s not fair, but that’s the way it works. Celebrating political violence means at best indifference to that.

If I have any credibility with you from 20 years of reporting on rightwing & fascist movements, please listen when I beg you not to celebrate Charlie Kirk getting shot. Leave aside morality: this isn’t a match in dry grass, it’s a torch. We do not want what this could ignite & we would not win.

Every one of these survive in Shinto as it exists today. Fundamentalists who wish to restore the centrality of the Japanese Emperor and amend Japan's Constitution to reinstate Shinto as the religion of the Japan are a small minority, but benefit from a well-defined, politically attractive orthodoxy.

Aaaah, but *which* Shinto? The local animistic religions amalgamated under the umbrella of sanctioned Shinto? The Shinto of the Meiji Constitution, which defined it not as a religion, but as a preserver of ritual? State Shinto in which the Japanese Emperor is the divine ruler of a chosen people?

8月15日の #終戦記念日 ポール司祭は東京インタフェース戦没者追悼式を参加させて頂きました。#国連大学 広場で、キリスト教、神道、バハイ教、と仏教聖職者は戦没者の安らぎと世界の平和のため祈りを差し上げました。

広島世界平和記念聖堂。8月6日の変容祭と原爆と戦争犠牲者のた めの礼拝後、ポール司祭とウクライナ人の信徒はウクライナ語と祈り捧げました。その後は人数を足して、交流会を開きました。
