@davidho.bsky.social What do you think about the final part of the article, particularly the ideas for what the offset market should focus on?

The people I know who read a lot grew up with books. I was an only child, raised by a TV, two dogs and a big home library. I've bought lots of books for my niece, hoping to get her hooked. But books *are* expensive and can also be daunting if you're out of practice. I ❀️ libraries and book exchanges.

I think Weiss's principles are clearer in many ways, and a focus on journalism as a service is a good thing. The question is, will she actually allow CBS News to live by those principles, honestly? Her track record also suggests that "facts" and "unpopularity" are covering a lot of ground there.

Satire is less fun when reality is so often equally or more absurd.

Route map showing a bike loop around Somerville, Medford, Arlington and north Cambridge.

Did you know you can now bike almost entirely on off-road paths, and in very scenic areas, all the way from Assembly Row, to downtown Medford, to Alewife? It's really nice and makes for a great ~11 mile loop with the Community Path.

I loved my first car, a little red Civic I drove for 16 years. I'm quite fond of my hatchback, and am being very picky about its successor. Cars can be lots of fun. They're just not better than people. And they're really, really impractical at scale.

It's much easier to be a single-issue anti-abortion voter who ignores their politicians' many other vile and corrupt stances than to be pro-choice in 2025 and believe reproductive care is the only or even biggest issue that matters.

This, exactly. Trump and Hegseth gave speeches calling for flagrantly illegal uses of military force, including within U.S. cities, but also abroad. They openly said that they want to do, and urged all generals who disagree to resign. WTF??? @warren.senate.gov @markey.senate.gov @pressley.house.gov

30.09.2025 18:35 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

It was not a pointless speech. It was a call to renounce all decency and all respect for human rights and international law. To unleash the power of the U.S. military to terrorize the world and commit war crimes, and to push out anyone who doesn't align with his G.I. Joe ideology. Don't diminish it.

It's an absolute hellhole with really cute and distinct neighborhoods, beautiful parks, awesome food, cool bars.. it did have a pretty serious homelessness problem when I was there, though, so maybe the soldiers can build some affordable apartments?

How many experts did you have to interview? It must've been so hard to come up with those tips!

(You forgot one, btw. Don't drive a car so big and tall that you can't actually see any humans you might be about to hit.)

Image of two sides of a rectangular card. One side says How do you avoid hitting people with your car and shows a car hitting a person with a big red X on it. At the bottom is the URL www.howdoyou.guide. The other side says: Avoid driving into people. Watch the Road. * Watch the road with your EYES. * All the time. * YES REALLY all the time. * No games or movies. * No texting. * Sometimes it's boring, but you do need to watch the actual road with your eyes THE WHOLE ENTIRE TIME. Note: To play games or text or watch movies, take the bus. Bring headphones as courtesy. Slow Down. * Speed limit means the MAXIMUM. * DO NOT drive faster. * You can drive slower. Note: This means you.

This little card from @howdoyou.guide, helpfully created in response to @npr.org's Life Kit episode, is the best.

Mmm... I guess anyone can be a violent leftist extremist these days. Especially since none of these are explicitly defined? Not enough prison cells in America to fit this many potential terrorists.

I sent a note to the Life Kit team @npr.org. I ended by comparing their piece to tips that women might share to reduce the risks of being date-raped, or of being assaulted on the street. Of course you try to protect yourself. But there's a menace out there, and it's not people walking and biking.

Precisely! And sure, do the things they advise. I personally walk and ride as if every motorist around me were distracted, unskilled, and possibly reckless. I also assume some kids will do stupid stuff on scooters/bikes (I've been hit by one, resulting in broken ribs). But this is a CAR problem.

Whatever you do, don't put any responsibility on drivers or traffic engineers. Sure, some people do dumb things, but the overwhelming majority of pedestrian and cyclist deaths could only be prevented by never entering a road. The streets belong to ALL of us!

I know. Though really, it took extraordinary levels of denial to pretend that πŸŽƒ was anything but what he's proven to be. Just a single speech, any speech, would do the trick. Or a casual scroll through his last 3 or 4 "Truths." I'm glad they're embarrassed now, but come on. πŸ™„

But they did get information via the news media. Some of it was both-sides mush, and some clearly showed one side as saviors and the other as monsters. Many people decided they couldn't trust the news media, so they just did their own research... by scrolling TikTok and listening to podcasts.
