Can confirm the southern suburbs are still SWARMING with ICE and they are still doing door knocking and abducting people from cars this morning. At least one abandoned car on the 101 bridge and a raid on an apartment complex in downtown Shakopee. It’s not even noon. Drawdown my fat ass.

AI Completely Failing to Boost Productivity, Says Top Analyst AI may or may not excel at a lot of things, but from an economic standpoint, it's definitely not making us more productive.

"OneΒ notable MIT studyΒ found that 95 percent of companies that integrated AI saw zero meaningful growth in revenue. For coding tasks, one of AI’s most widely hyped applications, anotherΒ study showedΒ that programmers who used AI coding tools actually became slower at their jobs.”

Reading @rfkuang.bsky.social's Babel and in wonder at how timely it is, personally & more broadly.

She captures so well the conflicted migrant who imagined technical mastery a route to acceptance. Inadequacy then becomes motivation to be a tool of colonialism, leveraged against one's own community.

Are you family with RCMI (research centers for minority serving institutions) network led by Morehouse? It includes a number of HBCUs and would be an ideal place for your area of clinical research. DM me and I can help connect. I also have colleagues at a HBCUs outside RCMI as well.

The Class Gap in Career Progression: Evidence from US Academia

Class is rarely a focus of research or DEI in elite US occupations.

Evidence suggests it should be: we find a large class gap in at least one occupation - tenure-track academia...🧡

Funny, I made this case Day 1 of my Epi methods class this term and it seems (unfortunately) students' minds were blown.

We care about doing it right; the number or plot at the end can't actually tell you whether you've done it right. (Though it might be able to tell you if you did it wrong.)

There’s a big story everyone is missingβ€”but this article hits on it.

We aren’t just seeing public health dismantled bc we’ve been taken over by conspiracy theorists and lunatics.

What we’re really seeing is the giant, predatory, underegulated wellness industry come to Washington.

Among perpetrators of violence, there is a very small share who are independently motivated to violence. But the vast majority of perpetrators commit violence to seek approval and status from others.

This is particularly true among men who use violence to affirm their masculinity.

Recent work shows systematic differences between cis-eQTL and GWAS signals, supporting models where upstream genes regulate downstream genes, ultimately affecting disease through complex regulatory cascades. (3/n)

Sarah Kendzior connects the dots so well so that all of us can access the whole picture. We just have to choose to. Resisting resignation is a big part of the fight. The more we truly understand what's going on behind the scenes, the better we can navigate it together.

And maybe even stop it.

Text reads: About synthetic panels
Recruiting the right participants for a study can be difficult. You may not get the exact demographics you need, and the shorter the deadline, the less sure you can be that everyone will answer on time. One possible solution can be to use synthetic panels.

Synthetic panels are powered by a first party proprietary AI model developed here at Qualtrics. Our synthetic panel is trained on thousands of responses from a variety of demographic backgrounds in order to more accurately predict how certain populations would respond to a survey.

Our synthetic panel is based on the United States General Population, and is only available in English. This panel comes with ready-made quotas and target breakouts in order to represent your chosen population and make it easy to launch your survey right away.

Question-writing best practices
To get the most reliable and actionable results from synthetic audiences, consider these question-writing best practices:

Ask forward-looking and attitudinal questions.
Synthetic panels perform best with perceptions, preferences, and intent-based questions. For example, β€œHow likely are you to try…?”
Synthetic panels are less applicable for studies on past behaviors, detailed recall, brand recall, or awareness questions. For example, β€œWhen did you last visit…?”

Discussion
The current study aimed to conduct a meta-analysis of the TPB when applied to health behaviours which addressed the limitations of previous reviews by including only prospective tests of behaviour, applying RE meta-analytic procedures, correcting correlations for sampling and measurement error, and hierarchically analysing the effect of behaviour type and sample and methodological moderators. Some 237 tests were identified which examined relations amongst model components. Overall the analysis indicated that the TPB could explain 19.3% of the variance in behaviour and 44.3% of the variance in intention across studies. This level of prediction of behaviour is slightly lower than that of previous meta-analytic reviews which have found between 27% (Armitage & Conner, 2001; Hagger et al., 2002) and 36% (Trafimow et al., 2002)
of the variance in behaviour to be explained by intention and PBC.

Did you know that from tomorrow, Qualtrics is offering synthetic panels (AI-generated participants)?

Follow me down a rabbit hole I'm calling "doing science is tough and I'm so busy, can't we just make up participants?"
