Well, if anyone is qualified to warn the city about avoiding unnecessary financial risks, it’s the guy who got caught by federal banking regulators unlawfully misappropriating assets from his own bank.

Democrat running for Washtenaw County board faces questions over Trump, GOP donations A super PAC-funded mailer sent to voters aims to paint the Democratic candidate as a "true Trump Republican." He says it's a union-backed dark money campaign on behalf of his opponent.

Is Stephen still sour about this?

That is an egregious, indefensible misrepresentation of what you said last night.

Sidewalk Gap Study: Sunset Road and Wildt Street A study to learn more about a few long-standing prospective sidewalk projects to determine their viability and community support

There's a new project underway to reengage on the issue of filling sidewalk gaps on Sunset. Public comments on the initial engagement phase are closed, but you can always write the City Council and city staff directly.

Make your voice heard.

And is a near certainty that, despite the efforts of AAPS, some unknown number of kids--ignorant of and/or indifferent to the closure--walked to school for a week in that road, facing oncoming commuter traffic.

No city street in Ann Arbor is adequately served by a single sidewalk.

Sunset is an active hospital commuter cut through. It's too wide, the sidewalk's curb is sloped/ramped, and there's no buffer between the sidewalk and the road. Speeding is prevalent. And there's a blind corner in front of the treatment plant. Right where the sidewalk was closed for a week.

I have two kids at Wines Elementary.

A few weeks ago, the principal emailed the community about a construction-related closure of the Sunset sidewalk, and warned parents to "alert" their kids to the closure.

"I know many kids walk to and from school alone on Sunset."

Traffic restrictions coming to 2 Ann Arbor streets for sidewalk, manhole work The sidewalk project will fill a gap connecting to a popular hiking area by the Huron River.

In June 2023, the Newport portion of the original sidewalk project was successfully completed.

To date, no "holistic" redesign of the Sunset corridor has been conducted or completed, and no sidewalk exists on the north side.

The lobbying effort was successful.

The city's plans--which were, at that time, in the advanced stages of public engagement and which targeted summer 2022 for project completion--were shelved in favor of a more ambitious "holistic" redesign of the entire Sunset corridor.

In August and Sept 2021, a group of anti-sidewalk activists lobbied the city to cancel the construction of a sidewalk on the north side of Sunset Road from Brooks to Newport.

They argued, among other things, that Sunset is "adequately" served by the single sidewalk on the south side. #a2council

It’s almost as if building bike infrastructure and supporting cycling safety increases ridership. Hmm. #a2council

Ms Nelson’s C/D campaigns took in tens of thousands of dollars and mailed deceptive flyers to every voter in town, and still lost by a huge margin. See! Ideas still matter!

How Can We Live Together? - Boston Review Ezra Klein is wrong: shame is essential.

"Common decency stigmatizes people that do not participate in itβ€”removes them from voluntary association. We indeed have to live with one another, but terms and conditions apply."

At least one Anti CM has claimed that it was actually Door 2 and did so as if Door 2 is not obviously the worse and dumber door for them to have chosen. The decision doesn't look better if the claim is "we could have fired this person without spending a bunch of taxpayer money."

There are only two doors in this game show:

Door 1: They fired him without cause and it cost taxpayers a bunch of money.

Door 2: They could have fired him for cause but chose to fire him without cause; taxpayers paid the severance needlessly.

They consistently conflate "without cause," the contractual term of art, with "didn't have a reason."

Yes, we all know they had *reasons* for wanting to sack the administrator. But the fact remains: they paid him his severance because they fired him, under his contract, without cause.

Tonight’s the night we move on from seven years of waste: wasted time, wasted resources, and wasted opportunities to meet community needs.

Let’s turn a parking lot that we don’t need into so many things that we do need. Vote yes on Props A and B.
