I grew up in a low-income, single-parent household, raised by a mother who spent much of her life working exhausting hours as a dry cleaner to keep us afloat. We lived in fear of homelessness, empty stomachs, and a lack of basic safety. 🧵

LGC's legacy will be the homes we never built, the neighbors we don't have, the extra commuters clogging and tearing up our roads, and the city services we can't fund.

What a waste.

Library Green's primary goal was stopping new housing construction in A2.

LGC fought the Core Spaces deal because that was housing.

LGC sat on its $ for years because building a park is not blocking housing.

LGC spent its $ in 2025 to fight the AADL project because that was also housing.

But behavior reveals priorities and purpose.

Why did LGC act with urgency to try to block new housing projects? Because that was its actual goal.

Why wasn't LGC good at raising park money or planning park projects? Because that was secondary, at best, to its actual goal.

This sort of bad faith is built into how LGC and a lot of anti-housing activist groups like LGC operate.

Pretextual, misleading, and/or euphemistic language--e.g., "Library Green Conservancy"--hide true organizational objectives like a suit of armor.

Several LGC board mbrs played key roles in the 2024 cmpn to regulate election finance in A2, arguing that "dark money" and "special interests" had too much pwer.

The next year: LGC illegally plowed its (charitably donated) reserves into a losing effort to stop the AADL's library project. #a2council

The zoning changes but they can’t build without an approved site plan.

4-4 CPC vote on the rezoning, which means it goes to council with a CPC denial recommendation. Council makes the call.

I'm not following you. The conditions are baked into the proposed zoning, and those conditions track the recommendations (three stories when close to R zones) in the draft CLUP. You're concerned about a future, hypothetical zoning change that no one is proposing to make?

The petitioner’s conditions limit building height to 35 feet, which is in line with existing zoning, until you’re at least 300 feet from an R zone.

He's been clear that he's generally opposed to using public money to support private projects--even when the project provides obvious public benefits. He couldn't bring himself to support 841 Broadway, which would be a polluted field *today* absent public $$$.

Bringing in third parties to supplement "in house" staffing and skillsets is routine in both government and private orgs, and only seems "expensive" when compared against nothing. Compare against (a) the costs of bringing these skills in house or (b) proceeding without expert support.

It might explain why he views local donations as problematic. Projection is a helluva drug.

The “smash my business” comment may refer to the various FDIC enforcement actions that have found him in violation of federal banking laws, and the “peace offering” part reveals that he views his political donations as something approximating a bribe.

I also love the suggestion that what Hayner did was equivalent or akin to an “error of speech at the table.”

Declining to rise to the defense of a person, even a friend, who is assaulting the humanity and equality of other people isn't difficult. It's not a test of fitness to hold public office; it's a test of basic human decency. Arends's defense of Jeff Hayner is disqualifying--on both counts.

Before she was a 1st Ward candidate, Rebecca Arends was a vocal Jeff Hayner defender, even writing a long email to #a2council defending him as "a devoted father, [and] compassionate neighbor" and arguing that his use of a homophobic slur in a FB post was "none of [Council's] or my business."
