Snow closings: in Cleveland Heights, Ohio schools closed *once* in my childhood, when snow was deep enough that parked cars were covered. In Stamford, Connecticut they closed whenever it started snowing *after* the time needed to get chains on the bus tires.

I think that some of the chain restaurants who do “international” foods round off the edges flavor-wise to appeal to American eaters.
