Amazing, thank you so much. I was surprised by Pitu’s comfort watches, not gonna lie!

Yours too please!

$10 on Pitu saying KKKG for her comfort rewatch and then getting lost praising that melodramatic magnificence so we never hear her ‘layered masterpieces’ or ‘you must watch this’ choices

@bethlovesbollywood.bsky.social I rewatched films often on VHS but now rarely do. Some are sharing gems: “you must watch this!” Others are cosy comfort watches. A few are layered masterpieces, revealing new insights each time. What are your & Pitu’s go-to rewatches for these three categories?

How did Boney Kapoor manage to pollute Sridevi’s gene pool so badly that her offspring haven’t 1% of her charm or skill? He’s like the Deepwater Horizon of Indian cinema

I definitely want to check out The National Museum of Indian Cinema in Mumbai.
Karwaan Heritage have sporadic walking tours that look amazing (Payal Kapadia led a tour around Mumbai, they also had a Basu Chatterji walk).
I’ve never stayed at Sun N Sand but that’s also on my list.
Very jealous!

What are the best film experiences in India for Hindi cinema fans? It doesn’t seem to be as well designed & marketed for fans (as compared to the various studio tours and film tours that USA has)

How a septuagenarian American man preserves classic Indian films Thomas Daniel owns a YouTube channel with almost 80,000 subscribers dedicated to classic cinema of the Indian subcontinent.

Oh yes. Brilliant stuff and so glad to have SOMEONE actually take care of heritage films without trying to colourise or make it 3bloodyD. I think I shared this with you elsewhere but nice article:

Ha, ok. Maybe just if it’s not those two then. I seem to struggle with finding the older B&W films with subtitles online but maybe I need to sieve a bit deeper into YouTube

@asimburney.bsky.social @9e3k.bsky.social I had exactly this realisation as Khandaan were ranking Hrithik.

Jodhaa Akbar, Lakshya, Luck Bu Chance , War, ZNMD, K3G, Dhoom2 and yet I still don’t look for his next release in the way that I do for Alia, Aamir, Tabu, Ranbir, Vidya, Ranveer etc

Thank you for the push. It became so hard to find quality old films once my DVD player packed up but your podcast forced me to search again and I found a streaming subtitled Nayak print. Where possible, would you please consider including the links to where you streamed the films (esp w subtitles) 🙏🏽

Is it weird that I read my Letterboxd Wrapped nanogenre in Pitu’s voice

Just finished the pod and one of the Kangana Ranaut films that I quite enjoyed was Panga. It was made by Ashwini Iyer Tiwari who directed Nil Battey Sannata & Bareilly Ki Barfi and it’s a somewhat typical sports movie peppered with lovely feminist depictions of family, allies and purpose

💯. In general, there’s no one in Hindi cinema with significant allegations whose creative output I miss other than Vikas Bahl with Queen (thankfully he’s been horrendous since) and Kailash Kher (whose music formed a defining soundtrack to my mid and late 00s… the decade as opposed to my age range).

I hate that I love this film because I haven’t been able to separate Vikas Bahl & Kangana Ranaut from their art

Strong disagree. It’s enjoying a vocal performance. It’s enjoying language. It’s great but it’s not reading. The author’s words goes through a filter (the orator’s choices) before we as a recipient get to interpret it. That fundamentally changes the experience unless it’s an autobiography

Sounds incredible. Are you on @letterboxd.social Maria? I’ve taken to it recently, and it’s quite fun to read and compare thoughts though wish there was a way to start a conversation within the app

Really? Nothing pre 2001 other than Sholay & DDLJ (which hasn’t aged brilliantly). Om Shanti Om only works if you already understand some references of Hindi films. Dil Toh Pagal Hai (great songs, bad movie) and Bunty Aur Babli are lucky to be on there. I thought the list was pretty generic

@ronniebarbour.bsky.social how have I just discovered that you have new podcasts?! I was so sad that you stopped Off Kilter but then I stumbled across The Podd Couple so I’m downloading them as I type. Hope you’re well, I miss the golden days of being able to listen to you every day on 3CR
