Aren't there a higher proportion of us identifying/defining as LGBQ as well as T? Because if autists' judgment about their own gender isn't considered valid, sexuality is next.

TEXT: Libraries are a model for the kind of publicly minded, livable communities that electeds like Mayor Mamdani so eloquently advocate for. I’m writing this from a New York Public Library, surrounded by neighbors and a few tourists who are working, reading, and resting. I can see laptops, notebooks, open magazines. Parents and babies are toddling in for a read-aloud in the back, there’s a table nearby where people are picking at jigsaw puzzles, and a guy in a lounge chair across the room keeps saying “wow” at the art book he’s flipping through. These spaces are more than just an archive of objects and services, they are the city itself in miniature.

It's easy to believe the world is full of hate, to feel overwhelmed and that change is impossible. But 150 yrs worth of data show it takes just 3.5% of a population—say 12 million Americans—engaged in nonviolent civil resistance to create real change—even the fall of administrations. This is doable.

For all my country's manifold problems, I am very grateful to live in a place where even the very rich and powerful are not beyond the long arm of the law.

I also came up through scouts, then DfE and climbing club at uni. Perhaps easier for those of us who work with kids to recognize that a group - with walkers of whatever age - will have mixed ability and, crucially, judgement.

I may have bought myself another pair of running shoes. I think this will be my ninth pair of Brooks Ghosts. Unfortunately, what I'm training for is a trail run so I think I need to keep shopping... 😀👟🏃🏻‍♂️

That's lousy - on their part, obviously. Glad you were able to offer the option, and dividing the group probably protected everyone.

Interesting thread. Informal groups of walkers/climbers means messy responsibility, authority and liability.

I used to think that getting into running was about, well, running. I now understand that I spend more time doing running laundry and eating to fuel/recover than actually running.

FOI reveals the EHRC holds zero minutes of meetings with trans-led organisations in the past 5 years.

This is the UK’s 'equality' regulator.

Trans voices are not important enough for the EHRC to keep a record of what was said. This should be a headline in all the papers.

It's a rejection of a more complex world, a false nostalgia for a time when everything is perceived today as having been simpler. (Pay no attention to the racism, sexism, homophobia, general bigotry, and universal near-poverty!) These people are displaying their own inadequacy.

Taking an anti-vaccination stances against a treatment that saves the life of ONE IN FIVE HUNDRED KIDS and has no verified deaths involving healthy recipients is not just anti-science and anti-logic, it's evil. I have studied this disease too extensively to soften that word.

It's just evil.

I once had a student tell me that I shouldn't do *anything* in public that someone might object to. I pointed out this would include smoking, drinking, holding hands with a female partner while unmarried, holding hands with a male partner at all... their response? "yes, exactly."

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

It is absolute and utter neglect to let this come this close to the wire just as the US has let most of its overseas broadcasting shutter.
