"Real" America Is Turning Against Trump’s Mass Deportation Regime In Appalachia and the Southeast, everyday Americans are standing up to ICE arresting their immigrant neighbors.

"Watching their neighbors being whisked away in an unmarked van — with no real explanation from authorities — rattled this tight-knit community. “I don’t like what [these raids] are doing to our community,” McDaniels continued."

Philip Larkin’s this be the verse mangled into Ozymandias, the text reads

They Oz you up, your mandyias.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They give you vast and trunkless legs
A sunken shattered visage too.
But they were Ozzed up in their turn
By Mandyias upon the sand
Who half the time had wrinkled lips And half in sneering cold command.
Oz hands on mandyias to man.
Like mighty works atop a shelf Look on them early as you can
Ye mighty and despair yourself

Their project depends on making us all feel alone, isolated and powerless. Taking part in a protest destroys all of those feelings in an instant. Go.

Every time the 47 regime escalates its attacks on our communities, the #NoKings movement grows stronger.

We, the millions of Americans who make up of this peaceful movement, are coming together on Oct. 18th to say: #NoKings!

Courage is contagious! Be brave, join us & speak out.

(A) the people in these group chats are not actual kids. (B) The actual kids I know would not be joking about any of these topics. (C) if they even considered making these jokes, my kids know exactly how much trouble they would be in.

The SpEd system in this country is set up in a way that families know they're entitled to certain things but also know they have to fight tooth and nail to get what they deserve.

They're tenacious experienced fighters who'll do anything for their kids. These assholes just sucker punched them all.

I know Trump and his minions all have sneering contempt for kids with special needs, but trust me when I say that their parents will absolutely fucking destroy anyone who messes with the special education supports to which they are entitled by law.

No Kings protests, and anti-regime protests in general, serve two main positive functions:

1) Reminding participants and observers that they’re very far from alone, countering regime efforts to divide and isolate

2) Showing the absurdity of regime lies about the peaceful, pro-democracy opposition

We are not yet in a dictatorship. Trump and his claque are making a run at it. But if you want to keep a democracy, you have to actually remember that you still have one.

Does the Rapture work like New Year's Eve, where it starts in Australia and slowly works its way across the globe? I guess what I'm asking is, what time should I expect to be spirited to my heavenly reward because I've got a dentist thing at 11 I'd rather not go to.

“In a free market system” let me stop you right there, buddy, “free markets” for healthcare generally mean “lots of poor people die unnecessarily” and in this specific case, it means “poor people die early after selling their organs to avoid collection agencies”.

Exclusive | The Onion Brought Back Its Print Edition. The Gamble Is Paying Off. Publications turn to the old-style products to appeal to nostalgic readers and stand out in a crowded digital-media landscape.

Some incredibly good news:

One year ago this week, The Onion returned to print.

In that one year, we’ve grown to the 13th largest print newspaper in the United States, just ahead of the Boston Globe, and growing fast.

In short, it’s working.

So… thank you. Thank you for helping save this thing.

Nothing made slavery’s toxicity more obvious to Union troops than its effect on the fundamental unit of society, the family. For one thing, slave sales separated families. In the Upper South, where many Union soldiers were stationed in 1861, about one in three first marriages was broken by sale, and about half of all slave children were separated from at least one parent. 129 With their own eyes, soldiers saw slavery snap bonds between parents and children. The men of the Seventh Wisconsin were awakened by gunshots one November night. The following day, soldiers “learned, and saw the cause of the alarm in the form of two negro women—a mother and a daughter.” The pair had fled to Union lines to avoid the proposed sale of the “goodlooking” daughter into the so-called fancy trade, which soldiers viewed as a form of concubinage. Outraged by the plight and moved by the vulnerability of the mother and daughter, “every private in the ranks” cursed “that system which tramples on the honor of man, and makes merchandise of the virtue of women,” according to one member of the regiment. 130 When an Iowan encountered a young child about to be sold by her own father, who was also her master, he vowed, “By G–d I’ll fight till hell freezes over and then I’ll cut the ice and fight on.” 131

Today is #NationalPotatoDay in the U.S. so here's an Archive photograph which shows a man and a horse gathering tatties in #Orkney in 1933. 🥔

In other news, we will be CLOSING at 5pm tonight, instead of 6pm.

(we promise the early closure is NOT #NationalPotatoDay related)

After some consideration, the most spectacularly inept villains in fictional history are the Decepticons.

They transform into into guns and fighter jets. They fight people who transform into the space-equivalent of VW Beetles.

They have been unsuccessfully waging this war for FIVE MILLION YEARS.
