thrilled that Cacoethes is back in stock and delighted to reveal that someone has honest-to-goodness described this novel as "sort of between Enid Blyton's Mallory Towers and Fifty Shades of Grey"

Finished Poor Ghost! today - I really REALLY enjoyed this book. I loved the dry humour, the chippiness, the Manchester-ness, the way places and memories all tangled up in Luca's life story. It's so real!! Bravo @gabrielflynn.bsky.social 🫑

A black labrador reaching eagerly through a gate post for someone's hand. The hand has Cacoethes superimposed over it, and the dog's face has a review recommending Cacoethes for "lovers of contemporary LGBT fiction, coming-of-age novels, messy girl lit fic, and stories where women get to be funny and unfiltered".

We've had to postpone this as the print run completely sold out - victim of my own success etc etc πŸ₯³

Anyway, Bodie is of course delighted to have his mother home all evening. Look at that little FACE.

so far one of my top Cacoethes moments has been the sale I made by chatting to an older chap in a bookshop who definitely didn't expect me to be a fully fledged Biggles fan when he told me his favourite author was W.E Johns. when I say I'm like if an old man was a girl I'm not joking!! 🫑

A five star review from Goodreads:
This is an exceptionally engrossing read: the novel slips down easily, and it's possible to devour it in a day.

This is partially attributable to its style, which marries sharp turns of phrase with exceptional dialogue: by turns witty, authentic, and a cross-section of clashing group and power dynamics as much as a celebration of the badinage that comes hand in hand with close friendship.

But perhaps even more impressively, Cacoethes demands the reader's undivided and uninterrupted attention through its deft manipulation of time.

Shifting seamlessly from past to present - from climactic, involving encounter to the breezy summations of a woman for whom hindsight is 20/20 even if it doesn't inform future actions - is a phenomenal sleight of hand.

The result is a roiling collection of cliffhangers, an invitation for reader inference to fill in alluring gaps, and a breathtaking evocation of the blur in which most university students exist.
