Its a good piece, it doesnt come across like the basic "greedy TOs" gripe. I'm just sort of lamenting that I think it has more or less hit its ceiling and its both probably unsustainable as is but also equally unsustainable to try and scale back.

1/2 This is a reasonable and well articulated piece but the unfortunate part of all of this is that there isn't actually as much money to throw around in the fgc as people would be led to believe because of CPT prizing et al. Lowering prices just means fewer events get to exist.

Spending a lot of time in a game will make you a better designer than being good at a game will, though being good at a game is a byproduct of spending a lot of time in a game. I think its easy to conflate the two.

Im saying if 2 people both have 1000 hours in fighting games i wouldn't necessarily consider their relative skill an indicator in who can design better gamefeel. I think they're both bound to have a lot of good ideas.

I'd argue being skilled is a byproduct of spending a lot of time in a genre, and spending a lot of time in a genre gives you a leg up on narrowing down your design choices. Experience is what matters.
