But to exclude their contribution to beating back fascism, just because we don’t want them in a safe space that can be maintained entirely separate from those people, is a mistake! “The movement” can be a lot of little disparate movements coming together for a single shared cause.

Contributing to a movement doesn’t necessarily mean subscribing to all facets of the movement. I may not be in community with lapsed conservative transphobes who see the writing on the wall and flip sides. If they don’t have anything to contribute to queer liberation, they can stay the fuck away.

Also worth mentioning that “permanent” isn’t necessarily the goal here. Antifascism is a long occupation for some and a movement of convenience for others. The good work of making safe spaces for marginalized people, and the work of beating back fascists, can be separated
