I didn't enter the Olden Demon painting contest in the end. The process of painting an entry for a competition was quite eye-opening. Ultimately a combination of poor choice of miniature, lack of time, dated camera setup, and my worsening eyesight meant it wasn't to be. Here's where I ended up:

"The Lunar class cruiser forms the mainstay of Battlefleet Obscuras with over six ships serving throughout segmentu and more than twenty ships fighting in the Gothic war. The uncomplicated design of this class ensures its enduring utility, enabling vessels to be built at hive and industrial worlds normally unable to muster the expertise to construct a capital ship. Perhaps the most remarkable example of this is the Lord Daros, constructed at the feral world of Unloth. The primitive tribesmen dwelling there were influenced to mine and smelt metals which were then presented for 'sacrifice' at sky temples established by the Planetary Lord. The raw materials were then lifted into orbit at each vernal equinox. After a period of eleven years the tribes were rewarded for their effort with the sight of a bright new star moving across the heavens as the Lord Daros boosted out-system to join Battlefleet Obscuras."

I'm planning a Battlefleet Gothic force, and reading the description for the Lunar-class cruiser reminds me of peak Warhammer. The description of how a "primitive" people's beliefs were exploited to mine the resources for a new Imperial starship is so bleak, it's the writing of a genius.

A beautifully painted squad of Emperor’s Children Terminator Space Marines from the Warhammer 30K Horus Heresy miniature range, skillfully completed by commission miniature painter Andy TheBrushSmith. These elite warriors are depicted in rich, vibrant purple power armor with intricate gold trim, capturing the luxurious and prideful aesthetic of the Emperor’s Children Legion. The central figure is a highly detailed character model, featuring ornate decorations, a flowing tabard, and a glowing green jewel, suggesting a commander or praetor. A wargames board laid out rady for battle - flat green pastures, with clumps of trees, a burned out building and some fields. Two armies are laid out for battle, Orcs along the left side and Empire on the right.
The War Wagon, a large fighting chariot, smashes into the flank of a large regiment of Orc spearmen, doing terrible damage.
A whirling melee of combat, several units all at odd angles, driven apart by the fighting. The Empire have two depleted units of Handgunners in action against Orc warriors, while the Baron and his Greatsword bodyguard fight a regiment of Black Orcs led by a Big Boss.
The Warboss on Wyvern charges into the flank of an unfortunate militia detachment.
My second game with the Hochland army was against a magnificently painted Orcs and Goblins army. A hard fought contest but a clear defeat for my Empire. Another amazing game with lots of rank-and-flank action - the War Wagon is deadly on the charge!
