How many memorable men were/are working-class icons? The first who come to mind are fictional too—tall-tale characters like Paul Bunyan and John Henry.

Having one of the most iconic historical working-class images being a tough, confident lady—even if fictional—is an immediate cultural win and a kind of role model for kids, too. To this day, when comic books show a construction crew, you'll often see a woman dressed like Rosie. >

Vibes are an underrated aspect of free speech. The First Amendment hasn't changed, but the vibes from this administration are that the gov't has the power to chill press freedom via threats. And so I'd expect these kinds of casual threats to continue until or unless courts emphatically quash them.

Morality, decency, justice, and fairness just never enter these discussions. Nor does the possibility that effective leadership and advocacy can move the needle.

The year I was born, public approval of interracial marriage was 30 percent. Death penalty support has dropped 30 percent since 2000.

Have these critics actually looked at who the most popular Dems are in this country?

It's awfully convenient for centrists to claim that Trump won by a landslide when he blatantly didn't.

Dems would lose more on the left than we'd win.

When I explain that boycotting an election over an issue has never once forced a politician to embrace that issue, I'm not "scolding people to vote." I'm explaining reality.

Can you, @charlesgaba.com, or anyone involved with studying polling tell me why Civiqs has not updated its Trump approval tracker—previously updated several days a week—since 10/17?

I can think of a lot of explanations, none of them good, and would love to be wrong.

Look at the poll I included above. It goes beyond the online audience—and it's guardedly encouraging that Mamdani is as high as he is.
