My son recently found a swastika drawn on the pavement at... The Manchester attack didn't come as a shock. The only surprise is it hasn’t happened sooner

I wrote a short piece for the Observer on the attacks in Manchester.

Flags: When Patriotism Becomes Politics | Belonging Effect We have all seen them. Driving up the motorway, crossing a roundabout in town, suddenly there it is: the Union Jack, or the red-and-white St George’s Cross.

Thanks Nikki. It’s a jumpsuit and the first one I’ve ever owned and worn ❀️ Haven’t felt confident enough to until recently.

It’s a jumpsuit from SHEIN (apologies to anyone offended by fast fashion 🫣). I felt very glam in it.

Thanks to the recent court ruling, trans people who 'pass' too well can be legally barred from using either the male or female toilets.
Today, Liverpool Quakers discerned that our main toilets will now be gender neutral. (Single-gender toilets will still be available on the second floor).

I’m obsessed with Jason Roberts’ systems and routines. He shared ways in which he codifies practice at his school and it got my brain buzzing! His meticulous planning, codifying, questioning and communication with his teams looks excellent πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Interesting keynote from John Hattie about AI in education too. Evidence shared to show that it can have a really positive impact if it allows teachers to provide what teachers can’t, e.g. VR and immersive experiences. It is generally used poorly with students so the effect size can be low.

Great day at ResearchEd Warrington. Their students were impeccably behaved and brimmed with confidence. The speakers that I visited were all fascinating and I have many ideas jotted down to explore further.

Was great to see @scottpughsley.bsky.social and his session too 🌟

I cannot recommend this experience enough. It is a fantastic opportunity for your professional development, but also a great deal of fun. Do it!

PSHE: the struggle to avoid a crisis-driven curriculum Headline-grabbing moments like the current buzz around TV’s Adolescence can lead to knee-jerk PSHE approaches, but this does students a disservice, writes Astrea Academy Trust’s Charlotte Cooper

'The teaching of PSHE needs careful planning – it shouldn’t be swayed by knee-jerk reactions to issues that grab headlines in the media, such as the debate over TV’s Adolescence'

I can’t find the words at the moment. It was only a few weeks ago that we were putting the world to rights and planning on applying for the Edge Hill Summer School to get our regular RE geek on. I’m utterly grateful for Dawn’s friendship and will really miss the mischief and laughter πŸ’”
