IMO everybody always jumps on polls too soon after any Big Thing Happens anyway. Takes a little time for most normal people to even hear about it and process.

I raise sheep in rural Ohio. Queer. Lefty in redville.

26.10.2025 00:54 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I don't know enough to have a very strong opinion of Mamdani, but I do hope the center left learns that everybody is pretty sick of constant retreads. Cuomo was always a bad choice.
25.06.2025 02:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes! I've been trying to express this about Ohio for quite a while. If everybody in power is on the take, which is not an entirely unfair assessment given the insane corruption here, then there is no ideal of common good and everything is only about personal or "clan" loyalties.
14.06.2025 12:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks for the recommendation! It's a thorny era and I feel like my rural high school in the 90's didn't teach it well. I have read a ton more since, but still always feels like I'm maybe missing important things.
23.05.2025 11:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Amateur Q: I think of it as sorta rooted in the civil war, with an alignment of Republican abolitionists and big industrial interests in the North via the war economy, which gave way semi-slowly at the end of reconstruction to dominance of that big business wing; is that off base? Too simple?
21.05.2025 13:03 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Have you ever been to Ohio?
16.05.2025 23:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We had one park himself outside the bedroom window and replicate car alarm songs *all night* for weeks once. I got so desperate I started throwing random fruits at him, lucky I didn't break a windshield with a lemon.
A shiny mylar balloon, floated on a string up to his spot, finally scared him off.
2. This also isn't the end of the world. Normal people's anger at Trump is needed for any path out. Most voters have never heard of filibusters or cloture votes. Blame will continue at Trump and Republicans for chaotic bullshit from this admin. Keep making sure they take the blame.
14.03.2025 21:35 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 01. This Senate vote was extremely stupid, Schumer is clearly not cut out for this fight, all of these Dems that voted for cloture should have hell to pay. They absolutely deserve the anger aimed at them. Dumbest D shit I've seen in ages, get Schumer out as leader.
14.03.2025 21:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So glad your pup is ok! We had this happen once with our (medium) dog, she survived it with lots of vet care. But it was *horrible* and I'm still kind of traumatized many years later.
10.03.2025 22:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think the most effective thing they could have done was pick a particular bit of bullshit, get up as a group, and walk out together. But that requires broad agreement on the plan, and that's not always easy.
In the end, hardly anybody cares about these speeches.
Lukewarm take: the signs were fine.
They're going to have to experiment with approaches to things, some will land and some won't, and that's ok.
Rural Ohio here. The remaining "centrist" types are starting to grumble, mostly still quietly but they increasingly get that economic pain will hit. The real maga voters aren't capable of embarrassment and will cheer the whole way down.
Viral misinformation is a cesspool out here.
I've actually wondered to myself whether Musk is doing the sloppy, super illegal, and probably highly unpopular version of things Vought intended to do somewhat more methodically. Feels like they're outrunning some of their own propaganda abilities too, honestly.
24.02.2025 00:37 β π 12 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We tried it for a while (any kind of physical cable would be many thousands of dollars to get down here to the farmhouse.) It unfortunately barely worked even for low speed things in good weather. I certainly wouldn't count on it for emergencies.
19.02.2025 14:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is absolutely abhorrent.

31.01.2025 19:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.
Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. Itβs not intellectually superior. Itβs the virus theyβre trying to infect us with. NO
Someday I hope I can share more fun sheep pictures, they're cute.
31.01.2025 18:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0For now I'm deleting some things that could make me way too easy to identify without effort, though I'll leave my llama for now I guess.
This is a very uncomfortable time to be queer in rural Ohio.
Glad to see Grassley still has a little u kno what left in him
28.01.2025 19:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is a step, good! Pair it with a*lot* of messaging about what these orders do, who they hurt, why they are illegal. Pound it.
Schumer has important skills, but public messaging isn't his strength, so get others out there also doing it. But this is a direction, good!
I'm not saying this to primarily dunk, I'm saying it because they need to get their shit together asap and adapt very quickly to the actual things happening. Even allowing for the real world moving slower than the internets, this is a snail's pace.
28.01.2025 14:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0100%. They're delicious but no, little local farmers cannot meet even a significant chunk of egg demand. And occasionally everybody is molting and *we* buy store eggs!
25.01.2025 21:42 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We're a small farm that sells eggs locally, there's no way small farms can scale up enough for people to stop buying store eggs altogether
25.01.2025 21:38 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I didn't expect this specifically this soon, but I expected once RFK jr got in that at least much public health work would simply cease. Maybe just from living in inner Trumpville and hearing what these people want.
25.01.2025 02:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0"people who didn't vote for this and don't support it may face consequences in their real lives!"

Oh no, takeout food discourse!
05.01.2025 15:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yep. When we bought our farm truck -- meant for actually hauling things -- it was genuinely hard to find something with a long bed and without four doors taking up the space (or turning it into a 20' long pain in the ass.)
