A record number of Senators voted last night to block the sale of thousand-pound bombs and 20,000 automatic rifles to Israel.

NJN called on the Senate to pass the resolutions.

This outcome is a clear signal that Congress is frustrated with Israel's actions in Gaza.

This is a matter of our values. The US cannot credibly champion peace and human rights while ignoring violations of US and international law.

This is not a matter of Israeli security: Defensive weapons systems like Iron Dome and David’s Sling will continue to receive full support from the United States, as they should.

The Senate should pass these resolutions.

Blocking these sales is Congress’s most powerful way to press for an end to mass civilian suffering.

70% of Gaza’s buildings have been destroyed. Starvation is rampant.

Only limited aid has been allowed in.

US law is clear: the Foreign Assistance Act and the Arms Export Control Act forbid recipients of military assistance from restricting humanitarian assistance.

Tonight, the Senate will vote on two key resolutions to block US-funded arms sales to Israel: $675M in 1,000‑lb bombs and 20,000 automatic rifles.

Those resolutions are S.J.Res.41 and S.J.Res.34.
