Just based on his superhero work, it feels like he's not there to dwell on big societal issues, but he does want to show off how those issues influence the characters.

Like Guardians 3 isn't about Eugenics per say, but it sure is about how Eugenics fucked up Rocket.

Yeah, I thought showing a bunch of small kinda inconsequential changes was smart. Like showcasing how much comfort we get in the little constants of life.

Of course in general I'm not great at picking up deeper themes in fiction, I'm a very surface level kind of reader. So who knows what's going on. I will say that last episode I found the big twist way less interesting than how Peacemaker was dealing with losing his family again, and all that trauma.

Like art is in the eye of the beholder and all that, but I don't think Gunn is trying to get all deep with Nazi Earth. I think he's just putting his protagonist in a fucked up situation. It's not an exploration of US politics, but of the fictional character Peacemaker.

I've been watching a lot of classic Twilight Zone recently and one of the most repeated tropes or themes in that show is just "wouldn't it be fucked up if X happened?". Like there's not a concrete moral of the story, it's basically just a thought prompt.
