17.09.2025 19:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The Government has 20 days to instigate a new mortgage guarantee scheme for first time buyers. The previous scheme, set up in 2021, is due to end on the 30th June 2025.
A commitment was made in Feb 2025, but no further details have been released.

To say I'm fucking furious would be a colossal understatement, and it has not been helped by estate agents and solicitors who have been actively hiding this information for as long as possible. It's a crooked industry that desperately needs regulation and reform.
24.02.2025 22:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The first buyers in a chain of 7 properties, initially agreed in September 2024, have inexplicably decided to re-apply for a mortgage on the back of marginally lower rates, delaying the whole exchange by at least 3 weeks and risking delaying completion into April, raising everyone's SDLT by 000's.

I'm all for rehabilitation, but violent offenders that lie about the extent of their crime should not be MPs, and if he hadn't lied, there's a good chance he would have lost the election. It's disgraceful behaviour and should rightly be vilified every time he speaks

07.12.2024 01:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So you're saying Starmer let slip there was an IHT charge coming but DIDN'T also say that land could still be transferred in the usual way? It makes zero sense.
07.12.2024 01:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0As is your right. I'm not a Labour voter, but it's in everybody's interest for the Government of the day to succeed.
And I wouldn't call myself easy going. I'm just looking at the facts and trying to be as objective as possible. If there were something to gain I'd be agreeing with you.
My point being that if they knew about it in advance, and could transfer at any time, why would they do it just before the budget if it made no difference? The only answer that makes sense is that they didn't know at all about the budget, and media creating a 'them vs you' story sells column inches.
07.12.2024 01:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0What's more likely:
1. The Chancellor told one backbench MP about a specific element in the budget that could affect their IHT, but that they could, AT ANY TIME IN THE FUTURE, get around by passing the land on as a gift, thereby rendering the timing irrelevant, or
2. It's just a coincidence.
What's their point? Anyone can transfer land to a family member, even after the budget. They haven't "dodged" any IHT or done anything that nobody else could do right now if they chose to, so why would anyone care about this? Total non-story.
