'Footpath through a park.' (1920) Santiago Rusiñol almost completely concentrated on painting Spain's gardens and landscapes. Wherever he went, he recorded the domestic, at other times enigmatic, forms and rich vegetation of the shrubbery, orchards, and arboretums he discovered.

Cartoon by Tom Gault, showing two people in medieval times on opposite sides of a river. The text reads: "Our blessed Homeland - Their barbarous wates. Our glorious leader - Their wicked despot. Our great religion - Their primitive superstition. Our noble populace - their backward savages. Our heroic adventurers - their brutish invaders."

How microplastics may be reshaping our bodies and minds.

“The particles are in our blood, brains and guts – and scientists are only beginning to learn what they do.”

Microplastics like those from car tires. The bigger and heavier the vehicle, the more microplastics shed.

"Trees will only grow in fertile soil, not up in mountains."

This self-seeded pine, lodged in a crevice high up in a sheer rock escarpment in the Caha Mountains, begs to differ. It says that trees will grow just about *anywhere* sheep can't get at them.

They got you fighting a culture war to stop you from fighting a class war.

The grotesque inequality of wealth in the United States is at the root of countless problems. If you are an oligarch, you know this. They win the class war by fighting the culture war. Don’t take the bait.

Original seascape oil painting by Tisha Mark, "Finding a Kindred Spirit" 30"x30" oil on cradled Ampersand Gessobord (2025). A seascape painting with a gray-blue sky with textured, atmospheric cloud formations over a dark blue sea. Waves are meeting a rocky shore, and there are hints of green moss and algae on the rocks.

'Through the Windscreen.' (1929) Gertrude Hermes was a printmaker and sculptor, who was one of the leading figures in the revival of wood engraving in the early 20thC. This work shows the night-time view of a tree-lined road lit up by the headlights of a car.

From Oglala Lakota poet Layli Long Soldier’s poem ‘Diction,’ a fragmented account of the massacre at Wounded Knee that communicates the immeasurable loss.

Far star that tickles for me my sensitive plate and fries a couple of ebon atoms white, I don’t believe I believe a thing you state. I put no faith in the seeming facts of light. I don’t believe I believe you’re the last in space, I don’t believe you’re anywhere near the last, I don’t believe what makes you red in the face is after explosion going away so fast. The universe may or may not be very immense. As a matter of fact there are times when I am apt to feel it close in tight against my sense like a caul in which I was born and still am wrapped.

At least a third of my book (in progress) is just me having fun explaining the humor in Frost’s astronomical poems, but this one is different.

The tone goes from contentious to sad.

Note, the “far star” is a galaxy. 🧪🔭
