Feathered Thorn
Rustic or Uncertain?
Just 10 moths of nine sp in my garden trap today but Cypress Pug is a lifer and Feathered Thorn is NFY. Also what looks like a 2nd brood Uncertain or Rustic.
10.10.2025 13:48 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Only five moths for me this morning but three of them a bit late now - Swallow-tailed, Square-spot Rustic and Tachystola acroxantha #teammoths #VC55Moths

Red-line Quaker
Only 13 moths this morning but two NFY - Beaded Chestnut and Red-line Quaker. Also a second brood Swallow-tailed.
01.10.2025 12:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm in my 21st year of trapping here and have never had Clifden Nonpareil or Pink-barred Sallow.

Barred Sallow
Frosted Orange
Brindled Green
Just 19 of 10 for my Lufbra garden (VC55) this morning but a lifer Sallow, thee NFY in Barred Sallow, Frosted Orange and Brindled Green, and my second Rusty-dot Pearl of the year so not bad. #teammoth #VC55Moths
27.09.2025 11:46 β π 38 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I paid out over Β£5000 for a commercial tour which supposedly targetted Hooded Grebe but never saw it.
27.09.2025 08:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I found that one. Jan/Feb 1993, and not really a 'spanking' male, a bit scruffy. It took a while to be confirmed as people then were not really au fait with the species.
26.09.2025 10:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My mothing/birding mate Tony greeted me with an apology this morning. He knows I've never caught the Big Bue CP but he was about to show me one he had caught, just three days after he had shown me another on Friday. He lives hardly more than a mile away too.
22.09.2025 18:58 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Tony Plummer showed me what he thinks is another, from his Quorn garden this morning. Along with a very gripping Clifden Nonpareil.

18.09.2025 13:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So the over the sea route looks more likely than following the coast.
14.09.2025 20:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0What is the direct distance Spurn to Weybourne? Any other Motus sites along the coast on between?
11.09.2025 18:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0One of the @ldvnnr.bsky.social reintroduced Corncrakes has pinged our MOTUS Tower! On 24th August at 21:32 it was picked up migrating over Spurn for 6 minutes! Amazingly, the same bird was detected just 90 minutes later at Weybourne, Norfolk! More info here www.facebook.com/share/p/1Arw...

10.09.2025 11:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My home patch is on fire at present - not literally. Birds and moths - Glossy Ibis Friday, Scarce Bordered Straw Saturday, Rusty Dot Pearl Sunday and Turnstone today. Plus 4 Greenshanks, 4 Blackwits, Spotted Redshank all locally rare. #PWC2025
08.09.2025 16:04 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I've just seen that someone has had to abandon a planned holiday on Islay due to a cancelled ferry and no space on the next few so hopefully the Scillonian will be OK for you. Have a great week.
07.09.2025 11:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Rusty-dot Pearl, Udea ferrugalis, caught overnight in Loughborougj garden.
Not as impressive as yesterday's SBS but still an uncommon migrant round here, Rusty-dot Pearl #teammoth #VC55Moths
07.09.2025 10:58 β π 22 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Andy Mackay kindly dissected this and it was a male SHC, but an oddly marked one.
07.09.2025 10:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I never think to look at moths from below but just happens I have a SBS in the fridge from this morning....
06.09.2025 19:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Great news and real dedication from the team.

06.09.2025 12:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0After a good morning's birding it was nice to get a decent moth last night - my first ever Scarce Bordered Straw. Old Lady, Straw Underwing and Beautiful Plume all NFY too.

A great morning on patch. My first self-found Glossy Ibis (6 pts for #PWC2025) plus caught up a couple if scarce waders mates had yesterday.
