Really excited to share the preprint for @halbevi.bsky.social and I’s new paper! Lithic tools from the Mesolithic and Neolithic were analysed with palaeoproteomics, use-wear, radiocarbon and optical microscopy residue analyses to find evidence of bovine butchery!

Here is my checklist summarising a small set of some of the simplest tasks you can do that have high potential to improve the reproducibility of your analysis code.

Typos and slang spur AI to discourage seeking medical care AI models change their medical recommendations when people ask them questions that include colourful language, typos, odd formatting and even gender-neutral pronouns

Typos, gender-neutral pronouns and even emotional language in patient messages make large language models more likely to recommend people stay home instead of seek medical care.

This AI bias could be especially problematic for certain patient populations. πŸ§ͺ

Isn’t she just! There weren’t any material goods found in Grotte Margaux itself, we based the badger tooth pendant and other objects on finds and animals from other Mesolithic sites. I don’t think any of the ochre from the cave made it onto the bust, but having ochre on her forehead was considered!

A human cranium sits on a round black table next to a bust of a woman with tanned light brown skin, wearing a necklace made of a perforated badger tooth, and a headdress with upright feathers. She has dark hair wrapped up around the sides of the headdress, and the front of her hair is shaven. Her expression is intriguing, with pursed lips, prominent cheekbones, and eyes seeming to squint in the sunlight. In the background, the Meuse river flows between green fields and tree-covered hills and cliffs.

Great fun yesterday in the Meuse Valley where we showcased the fantastic Kennis brothers and @roam-ugent.bsky.social team's reconstruction of cranium 1 from the #Mesolithic Grotte Margaux! If you're doing a Google search and want to get rid of the annoying and usually wildly wrong AI summary at the start of the list of hits, put "-ai" (without the quotes) after a space at the end of whatever you've put in the search box.
