I read all these books with my kids and was really shocked when we got to this part. Huge tone shift in the Aching books, and one that required a lot of delicate explanations for my 6 and 11 year old kids.

I think we're in a constitutional crisis that has created a dual state. I think the prerogative state abuses all non-naturalized people living in the USA. But the normative state is still holding for American citizens while under attack. Best way to keep the law is to act like the law is still real.

This is very silly. These chat groups are huge. A lot of people have already been arrested. They are normal people who aren't engaged in opsec. The groups are almost certainly already infiltrated. The reason they work is because the activities are protected by the first amendment.

Sometimes it strikes me that I've been reading Corey Robin since he was in the comments of Crooked Timber and in all that time he has never stopped being annoying as hell about everything. He's written some good books, but his arguments around fascism make everything else he's ever done suspect.

Really weird how many people react to personal tragedies by becoming increasingly racist.

A school cook with all her paperwork in order was abducted from MN and transported to TX faster than anyone could get her legal representation. They tried to make her sign her own deportation papers without the presence of a lawyer. That's just one I know of second-hand. Unlawful and evil.

One thing I've noted is that the second election of Trump was for many people away of trying to stuff #Metoo back into the box. A way of ignoring a profound seachange in the way women viewed the world. It's a deliberate ignorance. But a generation of men were hoping it would go away.
