In The Labyrinth of Time, entering the Ziggurat without a lantern is supposed to show a black screen. However, the developers put in the wrong filename for the black screen, so it fails to render, showing a black screen instead

In the sense that this is an official build of Godot with no source modifications, yes!
I do, however, abuse some engine behaviors to be able to hook a script to the project manager and do this :) Still in GDScript, and fully hackable like the editor itself after that point!

The killer feature of my time tracker was the splits for where you'd spent more time (2d view, 3d view, scripts). But that's also what I haven't fixed for 4.x, since some editors can now be detached and you can't just rely on the active main view.

But while it's incredibly satisfying to have a system figured out and just copy it from project to project, ofttimes it's just workarounds for things in the engine which are hard to work with or that it does plain wrong.
And that's sad.

With more projects under my belt, my views on what should be provided by the engine out of the box change. Both games and apps in 2025 require a lot of baseline user features to be acceptable โ in terms of preferences and accessibility alike.
Community projects can help, as can your own snippets.

I can think of a way to achieve that with new custom loggers in 4.5. But personally, I'd rather leverage the editor where I can, and the output log is already there and is already handling everything.
If this setup is too annoying, though, I think the pad can simply be moved to the output panel.

But if it's not what you envision, that's fine. This little game is perfectly playable! Just a bit of mental friction that I have. Might be solvable by other means too, like adjustments to the forward animation before letting go.

So I'm thinking doing a little pull back before the hand is automatically flung forward and the ball is released could make the cutoff point clearer for the wind-up. Otherwise it's a bit like reaching for a wet piece of soap, if that makes sense ๐

Didn't mean to suggest a pivot :) I just find it hard to judge when to let go of the click because the throw animation is quickly reaching its end and then the ball is automatically released. I feel like I don't know if it's about to be released or not due to it being one forward motion.

๐ช I use EditorScripts all the time to test if I understand inner workings of #Godot correctly. With an external code editor it's a bit annoying to run them. Besides, I tend to create and delete them constantly to keep project filesystem tidy.

There was also a good thread recently about temp audio and how using placeholder music can turn into a bane of audio production, as listening over and over to it people start to like it, become accustomed to it and make it hard for a composer to replace with a new, final, bespoke piece.
