Canโ€™t resist a good chat about inducing urban density and making our cities more inclusive and efficient. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿช๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ›๐Ÿ•

Maybe phrase it as defending Doug Ford? โ€œI strongly believe in and support Doug Ford in his wisdom in permitting speed cameras throughout Ontario municipalitiesโ€

Now you have me thinking of neighborhood sized arcologies surrounded by accessible parks and nature as urbanismโ€™s final form

I hope this additional revenue windfall will mean we donโ€™t need a tax rate increase next year!

While scheduling an appointment to donate blood on blood.ca, my grammar eye suddenly started to twitch. Is the word "WHOM" officially dead in the English language? Can we bring it back?

For that matter, is grammar still a thing in general or am I just behind the times as usual?

Good question. Iโ€™d also ask if we need to jump all the way from crappy bus service to dedicated tram lines in one go. What about dedicated BRT lanes to prove viability first? Is just so much money, I love tram lines but I also like not over spending tax dollars.

Good thought. When the risk math doesnโ€™t work for private companies, itโ€™s time to consider getting public entities involved. The lot is a prime location and it canโ€™t be just left like this forever.

There must be ways to make it less of a money pit, financially speaking, regardless of who owns it.

That begs the question โ€œwhy should we only have slower safer streets near schools?โ€

Maybe we should be reexamining our regular speed limits and just start enforcing them with these cameras. If the speeds are too high for schools, maybe they are too high for the whole community?

Regarding NPCs, as Musk references them, often donโ€™t even โ€œadvance the storyโ€. He is talking about simulated people who have a few prescripted lines that mostly just exist to populate the world and make it look more real. Players of grand theft auto enjoy mowing them over for laughs.

Itโ€™s great to see traffic measures that prioritize people outside cars for a change. It would be even better to see physical infrastructure that prevented the speeding in the first place though, but at least this is a start.

If only schools provided secure bike storage then kids could bike home from school too!

It seems wrong that it is illegal to pick or transplant trilliums but perfectly fine to bulldoze over them in Ontario. Developers should be required to save the plants when building, it's not too much to ask for our provincial flower I don't think.

Just finished @astrokatie.comโ€™s excellent book โ€œThe End of Everythingโ€. As just a regular ๐Ÿ’ป nerd it was a fascinating and approachable intro to some complex topics. Also the humour she brings to what could otherwise be a bit of a downer topic is a welcome counterbalance ๐Ÿค— thanks for writing, Katie!

Also, why was there no protected species or environmental harm investigation going on? Is it just a coincidence this lines up so nicely with the provincial government's latest Environmental Destruction Act?

Well today this YIMBY is going to reluctantly put on his NIMBY hat. There is so much land in Kitchener that could be used more efficiently without destroying nature, there is no need to put Huron Natural Area at risk. To leave comments: calendar.kitchener.ca/default/Deta...

๐Ÿšจ Another Ontario Place scandal

This morning The New York Times reported that Therme made false claims to get the deal. Therme claimed they ran spas across Europe. They donโ€™t. They just stole another companyโ€™s name and logo.

Ford is handing over our public parkland in a shady deal.

The COVID-19 pandemic offered new insights around the impact of the built environment on mental health, with the prevalence of the car in our cities and lives severely limiting our ability to create restorative spaces. Here are three takeaways for planners wanting to promote better mental health...๐Ÿงต

This is why we need CBC fully funded. We canโ€™t trust corporate media because they donโ€™t care about journalism, just the dollars.

This is an important part of how we prevent what is happening in the USA from happening in Canada. An oligarch free media is essential to a democracy.
