I have definetely messed up some grammar on a Focus before and only realised after most of it was through letter boxes. It can be hard when you are volunteering and have a full time job and have to meet a print deadline by artworking in the evening.
06.10.2025 17:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Absolutely, I saw that and thought probably some poor staffer was asked to artwork that super quick to meet a print deadline and it is easy to do. And another poor staffer flinging them in goody bags doesn't have a chance to proof read them. People in glass houses don't throw stones.

When I had that awful COVID sore throat a few years ago the best thing was a homemade honey and lemon juice drink it was about as effective as strepsils. Apparently some people swear by raw garlic. The internet says something cooling like ice cream or the less pleasant baking soda and salt water.

Not one to create admin but post-it and a marker, if it doesn't fit on one it is too long, it must have a question mark, allows a good mix of questions and perhaps allows a chair to encourage those with a question that only they will care about the answer to stay at the end.

Indeed Q and A sessions work best when people have questions not comments, and also when people have questions that perhaps most of the room might want the answer to. When a speaker is staying after and you could have a quick chat after to get the answer to your really niche question that is best.

I have seen a remarkable number of people using camping/festival carts with shopping where I live. I guess people use the for a festival and realise how useful they could be for lugging heavy stuff like laundry powder or a bottle or two! www.argos.co.uk/product/7147... good for scan as you shop too.

As the more cars you remove the operational tailpipe carbon, the manufacturing of vehicles goes down but there is less case for road widening, concrete road bridges etc and poor land use dedicated to cars at all points, homes with parking spaces, shops with parking etc so modal shift is key.
04.08.2025 16:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
I am not an expert and don't work in the industry so there might be a solution that is low carbon intensity but in the lifetime carbon, dual tracking, the gantries for catenary even if concrete and steel viaducts were needed if it removed sufficient car travel it would be a net benefit.

Oh yes, absolutely. And all those places that spend money recruiting and training new staff as they have such awful treatment of people because they dont value people and see retaining people as valueable.

Agreed, I wish more people had this system it is so good for parents or caring responsibility, people who would prefer to celebrate days for their faith or those who like to work when the office is quiet. It is a really good perk which I can't imagine costs much the the business.
28.07.2025 13:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
I think this a nice way of doing it, I think more places should adopt it, I can also take it by the hour if I wanted to not use a whole day but just finish early or late.

Where I work we get our holiday allowance and bank holidays flexibly so if I want them off I can, but I can take another day of I prefer. When we had the extra one for coronation I just got the time added to my holiday days allowance.

I am just a lay person and no expert but it is clearly going wrong.
26.07.2025 12:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Worst bit is that these so called sound money people then take the lower long term cost options off the table. As operating costs for trams is usually cheaper, the capacity is better and the rolling stock lasts longer than busses.
26.07.2025 11:53 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
So then people (right wing politicians or treasury people) say look you spent all this money on new busses and people don't use them no case for a tram. And the cycle continues, but of course people didn't use them as they were slow. So hampers the case in future too.
26.07.2025 11:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
I typed my thread too slowly! But yes absolutely. They will not get the infrastructure, bus lanes, signal priority, all door boarding because bus company will want drivers to check tickets. Even with contactless and oyster in London everyone has to use the front door.
26.07.2025 11:49 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
But we look at projects one by one go oh that is a bit expensive. What can I do that is shiny but cheaper. Don't do the ticketing so the bus driver still sells tickets and no bus lane so they get stuck in traffic, so it is slow. Then you have expensive busses no better than before.
26.07.2025 11:46 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Then based on that plan what is the right mode for each bit of the network, busses feeding into a higher capacity mode, be that tram, metro or heavy rail. Then we need to get better at building the infrastructure and building those skills so we can repeat it elsewhere and bring the cost down.
26.07.2025 11:37 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
A bus can be good at being a bus, feeding higher capacity transport. But we need to get better at being able to build the right transport for the task we ask it to do. We need a strategy, where is the demand and where will there be demand, because transport should fit with new housing and jobs.
