Israel threatened reprisals if the press filmed Gaza from above during airdrops.
This is why. A scene of destroyed & burnt out buildings in what is left of Gaza City, the pre-war home to 800,000 people.
Credit to Post photographer Heidi Levine who defied the ban & took this.
Hot tip - if you tune into a show half way through, you can slide the timeline bar thingy back to the start and still hear the whole show. π€πΌ

02.08.2025 05:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Once again, a number of Voices for Freedom affiliated candidates are running for local government, this time they are hiding their more conspiratorial views and focusing on bland populist issues like rates and road cones

20.07.2025 02:32 β π 2614 π 853 π¬ 29 π 13Yeah, glimmers of hope there. In the one project I know about the panel was surprisingly diverse & seems quite conscientious. Will be interesting to see if it makes a difference to the outcomes.
01.08.2025 21:16 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Admittedly, if you're a dodgy multi national wanting to do something contentious & you've got $250k to spend on a consent & want to avoid spending years in the environment court, the fast track process will work for you. But that's actually not most developers.

01.08.2025 20:07 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 1So it turns out that the 'fast-track' to getting projects consented isn't so fast after all.
This is backed up by a planner I know who's been working flat out on a fast track application for months & reckons it would have been consented by now under the usual RMA process.

I applaud this post.
But also, aren't elephants among the most wonderful things on the planet? Look at the size of its ears π€β€οΈπ₯°
Absolutely amazing that we get to share our planet with creatures like this. It will never fail to amaze me that they are here & we get to know about them. β€οΈπππ₯Ή
A very good long piece on AoNZ & climate which details why (among other things) the oil & gas reversal is utterly batshit on so many levels including economic ones. As these decisions become more obviously irrational, the justifications are becoming equally insane.

I just heard of Joanna Macyβs passing. I hope people take some time to learn about her work and the amazing example that she set for what it means to be an activist who really really does the work of building long-term movements. We owe a lot to her input into the conversation.

Joanna Macy made my heart bigger. Both in its capacity to care & capacity to grieve.

We're cracking down on councils because we've got your back. We want councils focusing on roads water & rubbish not woke nonsense like fancy toilets & excessive bike lanes.

A great thing about ebikes is that they turn non-cyclists into cyclists.
