Realization: Cities are often pointless in 2025.

Getting to where I fully believe this, like some Harvey-Lefebvre hope gene is disintegrating inside me.

Excepting medical care? Eh.

Feeling like most people just need hustle and bustle to distract them from their own awful thoughts.

Hipped to Patlabor showings while in Japan so I got to see that bad boy in a theater.

Thanks again, AniBlewCrew!

β€œAnalog infrastructure” is such a loaded, pseudo marketing term.

Hey, look, just because you bought into Bill Gibson novels and tech mania doesn’t mean ohm’s law and copper and crimping went out the window completely

I would very much appreciate my diploma from that R1 public ivy where I got my doctorate.

Sure would be nice to have that.

(Seriously, now on my third try for a piece of paper.)

πŸ€— to see @timothyaschuler.bsky.social on the work of Reimagine the Canals (+ my friend Angelyn!), who, in revitalizing the Erie Canal, "hope [to] serve as a model for how public agencies might approach aging infrastructure at vast scales, marrying... basic maintenance with... public access"

I read β€œnew” ish stuff all the time but the thing about qualitative humanities is that β€œnew” in terms of peer review still takes a year or so…

It’s a meta discipline that’s β€œtimely” if you’re used to slow media, which I guess is the point of conferences and the like.

Today media class will get the @alicetiara.bsky.social instafame lecture!

Hoping the cognitive dissonance of having the β€œmake music (and houses) from chunks of discarded metal” guy doesn’t induce too much chaos…

(Or at least praying for β€œfunny” chaos…)

as a girl with a PhD in natural language processing and machine learning it's actually offensive to me when you say "we don't know how LLMs work so they might be conscious"

I didn't spend 10 years in mines of academia to be told ignorance is morally equal knowledge.

We know exactly how LLMs work.

So the new perfect blue looks pretty good, but I felt super trauma’ed out by the third act… perhaps I just wasn’t in a place to watch it again.

I was also totally alone in the theater, which was odd. Maybe the lack of audience excitement left me feeling flat?

I did myself a legitimate disservice by learning that fact way back when, because he wouldn’t have even *needed* to act

RLS: Why they let Jared Leto *near* Tron is lost on me.

Dude stank up the screen in Blade Runner 2049.

I need to revisit the episode that β€œthrew” me narrative-wise for a second, but it never downgraded plot-wise. Wasn’t as totally amazing visually toward the end as it was at the beginning, but it was so engrossing…
