16.02.2026 20:20 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I see that Alexander Van der Bellen, the president of Austria, is among us. You will remember, Mr. President, when you hosted me and the leaders of the International Auschwitz Committee and we talked about those times. At one point you used the phrase: โAuschwitz ist nicht vom Himmel gefallenโ. Auschwitz did not fall from the sky. This is, to use a phrase of ours, an obvious obviousness. Of course it didnโt fall from the sky. Yet while this may seem a banal enough statement, it contains a profound and extremely important cognitive shortcut.

His work is enduring.
Over the weeks, Columbia Academy, like the districtโs four other schools, had taken on an entirely new identity. It was still a place of learning, even if 210 of its 700 students were now studying at home. But now it was also a food bank, a counseling hotline, a missing persons task force, an immigration resource center and a refuge.
This small school district kept losing students to ICE. So it mobilized. wapo.st/4cvaYtc gift link
