The wiki page for the Maxim is wild. Lists all the wars it's been in. late 19th C to 2026. Huge list.

It's also funny that it makes a usable AA gun when it was invented before airplanes.

Making a wild guess that he won't be lying in state. They won't want the inevitable videos of people spitting on him, cursing his name, or celebrating next to the body.

But I'm probably wrong. They're quite clueless and might think he'll be mourned.

As a kid, pre-VHS days, I only got to see the movie once. The novel and comics were read repeatedly. Biggs was a major-ish character for me too.

Me too. The Day After, Testament, Threads, and the novel Warday all in succession for me at age 13 to 14. Plus my evangelical church and its obsession with End Times. Thief in the Night and all that. Plus Reagan's rhetoric. Was a great time to feel hopeless as a preteen.

No. Thune ruled out nuking the fillibuster for this bill. Said he didn't think there was enough votes for the nuke.

Considering the decent chance R's have of losing the Senate, I don't think they'll touch the filibuster for any reason.

And in Christianity, it gets worse because the redeemer is the same as the creator. Which makes the thing into either a giant joke or con job. Or both.

It really is. And (speaking from the POV of someone raised evangelical) it makes no sense theologically. Boils down to "God created people to act a certain way, then punishes them for acting that way."

Calvin is the worst. Theology boils down to: "God created souls for the sole purpose of torturing them forever. And we, the Elect, get to feel smug about this."

It's a faith tailor-made for sociopaths. Even more so than regular evangelicalism.

4 years ago or so, I discovered a live streamer on TikTok (nobegTV) who goes to small town festivals in Java. Dances, costumes, gamelan music was all so mesmerizing. As was just watching the village life from a distance.

Would love to go one of these days when I have time.

"we love the people on the inside"

vs.

Galatians 3:28 "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Was about to say this show would piss off the grandmas who keep TBN on in the background. But then realized most of the TBN grandmas would be long dead by now. Wonder who their audience is now?

There are some interesting books that came out during the show's initial run. Laura's diary. A travel book covering the Twin Peaks area. An audiobook titled "Diane..." which are the musings of Agent Cooper.

Might be others I'm forgetting. But I had those 3.

Money laundering is always a bit wasteful. Pretty sure that's what's happening. No one, not even the studio, cares if anyone actually shows up to this thing.

They supposedly spent $35 Mil on marketing. But most of the ads are just bus stops and cable networks. Not a big visible spend.

I thought you were exaggerating slightly. But no. You were correct. I was not ready. That is a beautiful sight.

Feels like we're just one or two sharp incidents away from a maidan.

Wouldn't be surprised if that becomes the official talking point from 2028 onwards. Wonder if the future R's try to erase Trump from their records like they did with Dubya?

Looking at Scientology, they can keep the lights on for a long time. Just gets a bit more hollow year after year, until one day everyone realizes the lights are all that's left.

There's been reports of a mountain lion with her cubs not far from my part of Kansas. I'm kinda excited about that.

We've had some lonely young males wander out here before, but this is the first time in a long time we've had a female with young.

I agree.

I also think the reaction was pre-primed by the right spreading gasoline. In the week prior to ICE's murder, conservatives everywhere were mocking victims. Laughing at the 5 yr old. Doing it heavily in places, like FB, where non-right people would see them. Helped the anger build.

Not a sex sub, but people on /r/Military are fedposting.

In years past, it was more apolitical than anything. Some right, some left, but mostly just talking shit about Marines and crayons.

Honestly, I'm just tired of y'all at this point. I mean the quintessential NPR headline is: "Democrats say sky is blue; Republicans differ".

You could have helped. But you didn't. And even now, it's still wimpy, soft language like "guardrails".

Entrance fee was $1 billion on paper. Would imagine some of the countries were given a discount. "just for you! only for a limited time!" And some were let in for free just to juice the numbers.

Wouldn't be surprised if only Orban was dumb enough to pay full price.

We'd probably be better off having the country run by a Bond villain. They'd at least have a coherent health care plan. Probably something close to full employment, thanks to an insatiable need for more henchmen. And science budgets would be high. The Death Ray isn't going to build itself.

I think it's a great idea. Not just for now but for the future. I like the thought that 100 years from now, the Fuck Trump will be the most prestigious award in football.

Seems like a logical progression for an evangelical.

Besides, everyone loves bivocational pastors.

Stadium lights turn red. Refs leave the field. Crowd chants "purge! purge! purge!"

At least that's how the local high school teams handle overtime.

Everything she says is correct. Especially the parts about media. Thinking about the countless shows where one character pulls a gun on another character. If the trigger isn't pulled immediately, that act is the start of a conversation. Not a murder. It's a very well-established dramatic trope.

Operating in rural areas would be a great way to lose that part of the base. Farmers and small town folks might be fine with people getting deported from distant states. But if you take away their own beloved Mexican restaurant and leave the farmers without any labor, they'll feel quite differently.

I grew up in Arkansas. Still follow news there. There was a leader of the legislature who used to butt heads with Governor Clinton. Recently read he was still in the legislature. In the 80s, he was D, and now he's R. Hasn't changed ideology at all in that time.

That mostly sums up the "retreat".

We're going to do our best. I run a tiny part of the KS Democratic socials. Always refer to the Senator as "Marshall (R-FL)" Hope the rest of the party will follow suit in labeling him "Florida Man" while showcasing his uselessness.

Hope someone will go all in on the attempted murder thing too.

Absolutely agree. I've personally welcomed people in my rural county who voted for Trump 3 times and finally woke up due to one or several incidents.

Always accept converts as long as they're in good faith. Even if it's at the last minute. The one truth from my evangelical youth I still keep.
