Roche | Biochemical Pathways Biochemical Pathways provide an overview of the chemical reactions of cells in various species and organs.

Today, I say goodbye to an old friendโ€”the #Biochemical #Pathways poster. It has hung in countless labs and offices, including on my own wall while I was studying #bioinformatics, inspiring my fascination with lifeโ€™s chemistry. #science #legacy #Roche ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Stanford Medicine have devised an influenza vaccine that prompts immunity to ALL four major flu subtypes AND shows potential against bird flu, indicating a significant advancement in flu prevention and a potential increase in vaccine efficacy. Letโ€™s talk about that! ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿงตโฌ‡๏ธ

'Here, we show that this reagent appears to be unreliable due to providing false-positive signals at the expected molecular weight of Bax in immunoblotting experiments and likewise provides false-positive signals in immunofluorescence-based detection of Bax expression'

RSV vaccine coverage report in older adults for catch-up cohorts in England: November 2024

This is really disappointing- only 41.8% of eligible people have taken up the offer of an RSV vaccine! London has the lowest take up- 34.2%. Takeup in some ethnic groups such as S Asian as low as 14.3%- this clearly stores MUCH more work needed to communicate about this vaccine & its benefits ๐Ÿงช

Goldman Sachs analysts : The money men saying the quiet part out loud

Curing patients may not be a sufficiently profitable enterprise for biotech companies.

Chronic disease is a far more beneficial business model

New work from us:
Oral vancomycin is associated with attenuation in IBD activity in people with PSC. We also studied changes in gut microbiome profile, and key transcriptomic and metabolomic features.

Bird flu in Canada may have mutated to become more transmissible to humans Scientists are racing to understand what a hospitalized teenโ€™s case of bird flu may mean for future outbreaks

I spoke to @mscribe.bsky.social @theguardian.com about the H5N1 case in BC.

More and more human cases are occurring, along with mutations that indicate further human adaptation.

We need to treat these cases like a warning, because that is what they are.
