This is why fledge watch/falcon watch, whatever yer community calls it, is so important. This year, all four of our juveniles required rescue (some requiring several) and two were sent to the raptor center as a precaution. Without BOG we wouldn’t be able to give these babies a fighting chance.

As she was uninjured (besides her pride) she was released by myself, Dria and Aziz on the rooftop, just a few feet from the nest site. She’s been hanging with her siblings since… and acting very dramatic on camera 🀣

She led me on a 1hr 40min hunt while our camOps and BOG directed me as I searched for her. Finally found her grounded & being watched by a security guard. She was carefully caught and placed into the rescue box then brought inside the Sheraton hotel for a physical exam. (See alt for info)

This was after rescuing Winona, one of McKeever and Judson’s peregrine falcon chicks from this year. The others are Lawfield, Charlton and Simcoe. They nest atop the Sheraton Hotel. Winona was our last and late fledge - happening just as my falcon watch shift ended!

Ground rotation from a tornado.

Ground rotation from a tornado.

It is rare for me to be caught off-guard by a tornado, but it sometimes happens. I knew I was close to the rotation, but when I looked in the mirror and saw ground rotation, I was really surprised! The first of many tornadoes yesterday. This one started just northwest of Merino Colorado.

Good to know it wasn’t me having fever dreams from this sinus infection thing that’s now giving me a high fever. Yay for new cameras!

Hey @calfalcons.bsky.social what’s happening with the webcams right now? Two of them are offline/black screen and say β€˜live’ but their dates are 12/16/2024, while the nest cam is fine and the South/West cam is back w/a new stream but half-facing the wall?

@calfalcons.bsky.social No joke, I will literally pay double the money if I can buy the two designs after the fundraiser somehow. Is this doable? I’ve been waiting all year for this to possibly be a sale, because my only option woud’ve been eBay which doesn’t have my sizes :/

@calfalcons.bsky.social I’ve been DESPERATE to get my hands on the 2024 and 2023 designs as a hoodie each, but I won’t have money for another 4-5 days. Is the sale ending in three days or just the fundraiser? Can I still purchase my hoodies after that date?

These are a few days old but when it’s November and you’re wondering if that 2005 tornado that destroyed your neighbourhood will happen again in 2024. The weather sure be sketchy lately.

Each time I pack away chase gear for the year, SPC makes me rethink it with a US stork that winds up over here.

Also this video is great. Watched it yesterday and it made some good points. I’ve people in my life who are those ef5 conspiracy folk so it’s good to have something to back up my info with.

Nox ended up on the ground this afternoon and has been recovered by Bay Raptor Rescue. There do not appear to be any major injuries in an initial examination. We’re not sure what happened, but he will be getting a healthy portion of quail tonight and a thorough examination tomorrow.

Nox the UC Berkeley falcon flies again, his broken wing mended - Berkeley News Surgery and rehab at UC Davis, plus a month with a falconer, prepared him for release on Friday.

Nox has completed his rehabilitation and has been released (with a fancy new backpack!). With his new GPS tag, we'll be able to peak into one of the big mystery of: where juvenile birds go after they leave their parents' territories.

More details here: news.berkeley.edu/2024/10/21/n...
