One of the nice things about Rust is that you don't have to decide what kinds of errors warrant throwing an exception.

I am not sure of the moral of this story, unless it's "commit to Git more frequently."

So I switched that buffer to fundamental-mode (with M-x fundamental-mode) and held down the key to undo for a while.

Sure enough, with a little patience, there it was. I saved the file and committed it to my local Git.

I left it for a few minutes to do something else. And then it occurred to me that my work might still be there, just inaccessible because of the LSP screwing with me.

I looked for backups, and I looked in the Git index, but there wasn't anything. I thought I'd have to redo hours of work.

19.02.2026 21:05 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

This time, however, when I did undo, the LSP immediately redid it. Even holding down the key, it was faster than I was. I couldn't figure out how to get my work back. And the file was already saved.

I've never been able to figure out what triggers or when. Normally, this is a one-time thing, so I'll just undo with C-_ and go on with my day.

I came really close to losing hours of my #rust work in #emacs today due to some kind of #lsp bug. You seen, very occasionally, I'll type something in a Rust file and the LSP will decide that it needs to replace the entire file with some random content.

A couple of times at work I've had a problem I didn't know how to solve, so I asked AI. It didn't solve it either, although it claimed it had.

I'm reading that the FCC "wouldn't let" Colbert air something, but I'm sure that's not true: that would be illegal prior restraint if I correctly understand how the First Amendment works.

valentine's day isn't just for couples, it's also a day to celebrate love. for instance, i would love it if housing prices came down.

Trump said ICE was going after the "worst of the worst".
You thought he was talking about undocumented immigrants?
Nope. He was explaining ICE's recruitment goals.

A lot of cities have been banning ICE from city property. A lot of cities own airports. Cities should ban ICE from all use of their airports.

The second is Computers and Typesetting, Volume E, by Donald Knuth. He was really amused by my choice of book. I explained that it was that one because I figured I might be the only one to ask for that particular one. Don is a friend of a friend so I could always get more signed if I really wanted.

I have two books that I got signed by the author in person. The first is Mostly Harmless by Douglas Adams. I waited in line and when I got to the front I was startled by the idea of asking for a personal message. He didn't know me, how could it really be that personal? So I just got the signature.

Yes, he wrote two SF books. The other one is called "Wine of the Dreamers". In the late 80's and early 90's I had every book John D. ever wrote (in paperback, mind you) and I had read them more than once. 'The Girl, the Gold Watch and Everything' is one heck of a good book.

kind of funny that an olympian said they are here to represent "compassion, respect, and love for others" and some people automatically knew that was a statement against them

I assumed that something was mixed up I got the shipping notification for the @techdirt.com commemorative coin, because it said it was coming from Redwood City, which is where I live. And then it arrived and I found out that Techdirt is *based* in Redwood City. I was so surprised!

In the late 1990s, almost 30 years ago now, I had a RAID-0 of 3 4-GB drives on my personal desktop machine. Now a comparable setup would have 1000x more storage and be physically at least 10x smaller.
