Our paper on conductance control and neurosteroid binding in NMDAR has been officially published. I have attached a movie that describes a sub-open and a full-open channel. Also, neurosteroid binding patterns are surprisingly quite diverse www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Calcium and magnesium in the pore of NMDA receptors!

Lipids play an unexpected role. The hydration shells of Ca2+ and Mg2+ could be the difference between permeation and block. So much physiology in the energetics of H2O.

Mechanism of conductance control and neurosteroid binding in NMDA receptors - Nature Ion-channel conductance levels are controlled by the bending patterns of pore-forming transmembrane helices in the heterotetrameric neuronal channel GluN1a-2B N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor.

How are NMDA receptor channel conductance states regulated? We uncover a mechanism for tuning ion flow and reveal striking diversity in neurosteroid binding. Our structures captured two distinct open-channel states. A fantastic collaboration with the Traynelis lab.
