There are people who will vote on other issues - such as abortion - to the exclusion of all else. The Republicans know how to push those buttons, while Democrats are trying to herd cats and keep their coalition from fracturing over any number of issues.

100%. The tone deaf-ness here is STAGGERING. And to be clear - I’m a gen Xer and have always described myself as centrist (though have become much more progressive) and valuing govt experience and perspective. It’s time for Schumer and others like him who are not fighting to get out of the way.
