A map of Ottawa showing the small amount of 75 to 150 year old water and sewer pipe remaining in the old part of the city (180km), next to a map showing the 1800km of pipe laid down over the 1950s and 60s.
Today Ottawa City Council is set to pass $4 billion in spending on our water and sewer infrastructure. This is just 2/3 of the $6 billion identified as needed over the next decade, and a drop in the bucket compared to what's to come once we get to renewing suburban sprawl. π§΅

Cars are hyper convenient. The built form of cities amplifies that convenience, to the extreme detriment of everything else.
Cars should be facilitated, but their priority should be reduced below every other form of transit.

People hate Matt. I don't really, even though I vehemently disagree with much of what he proposes (most importantly the trans stuff).
The core of the difference is Matt's intense econ brain applied to politics, which is perhaps the biggest problem Dems have at the moment.

Great study and super important subject. The future of Canadian cities is contingent on our ability to get mass transit built efficiently and effectively.

To investigate the relationships between duration of ice hockey play and CTE diagnosis and severity, the researchers studied male brain donors who had been amateur and professional ice hockey players. They found 96% (27 of 28) of professional players had CTE pathology (18 of 19 NHL, 9 of 9 non-NHL professionals), 46% of college, juniors and semi-professional players (13 of 28) and 10% (2 of 21) youth and high school players.
In Boston University's new study of hockey players:
- 96% of former professional players had CTE
- 40% of college players, juniors, and semi-pros had CTE
- 10% of youth and high school players had CTE

I like that this website does a bad job of showing the original tweet that's being replied to so your timeline just fills up with weird little snippets like "oh great, let's make babies even bigger" or "what about dog owners who need to use the bus?"
