Released in November, the song looked back at two major cultural events, the Summer of Love and ubiquitous Sgt. Pepperβs Lonely Hearts Club Band music. It reached #14 on the charts in earlyβ68. My favorite by Rivers.
Currently reading a biography of Octavia Butler, the great Black writer of science fiction, while enjoying her greatest work, the fascinating time travel novel, Kindred.

A major Summer of Love event was the Monterey Pop Festival during June, memorialized here by Eric Burdon. This December recording followed Burdonβs earlier paean to The City by the Bay, titled San Franciscan Nights.

Scott McKenzie: San Francisco
Putting aside the sensation caused by the Beatles and their monumental Sgt. Pepperβs Lonely Hearts Club Band album, it was McKenzieβs San Francisco that captured the nationβs Summer of Love imagination, and mine.
This, indeed, is a great song! I was debating including it in my 1967 songs because he recorded it in 1967, before he died. But decided against it as not right.
