@carolinedebenh1.bsky.social, do you do requests? Will you be posting any (Belgian) Christmas/Winter beers over the next few weeks? That might inform some of my purchases... 😁

Ah, I envy you your veranda. Maybe it's not the right sort (volume?) of rain to sit by, but I love that idea of shelter whilst being outside.

BLACKOUT THE SYSTEM

From Nov 25 – Dec 2, we’re stepping back to push back.Stop feeding the system that profits off our struggle.Be mindful with your dollar. Buy nothing unnecessary, support local, and starve the greed that keeps us divided.

A brown bottle of Cascade Coral Horizon 2018 on a wooden worktop. The label is white with orange, and black text. The glass is selected to be a 'sour' glass, it's filled with golden beer. There's the wire cork capsule in front, and part of my daughter's Happy Birthday sign on the beige tiles behind.

A delightful sour from my 'forget it' stock that I've just got out last month. It's still fizzy, there are floral notes, citrus too, wine undertones and ginger coming up afterwards. It's a great delicate brew, just sad that they're not brewing any more, but an inspiration to try this style myself.

Just English influenced or is it known in other languages?

That's interesting to know up front, thanks. I have that batch in a 2020-2025 series I'm lining up for a comparison when this year's batches appear in the UK. What's been your experience on their longevity?

Another upvote for Nosecco. Forgive me veering back to beers, but House of Trembling Madness in York have a great range of AF beers from across Europe, eg Belgian, that I've not seen elsewhere. Finally, kudos to @mashgang.bsky.social (esp Lesser Evil cherry chocolate stout).

Does anyone else read characters with certain voices?

I'm reading Le Carré's spy books with Alec Guinness' voice from the TV series.

A neat tool I just came across: Viabundus, a digital road map of northern Europe 1350-1650, that lets you calculate contemporary travel routes/times. In 1500, going Amiens → Köln by horse took almost 7 days and 13 toll payments.

I will listen to this! I'd assumed Oswald had stopped with Cuthbert in Durham, so will have find out more. Thanks for reposting.

Hello non sleepers! I can't sleep so am up with whiskey, cheese, baguette and the Leeds International Film Festival brochure. This started out as a grouch on overactive brain insomnia but I realise with my diet that I'm too bourgeois and privileged to really complain.

Anyway, #LIFF2025, go see it.

Thanks for this extensive explanation. Are there any noises or checks starting up on this or has the shutdown impeded that? I'm in the UK so don't have the low level knowledge on Politics in the US.

Have I missed all the publicity or is it muted? Philip Pullman's 3rd volume in The Book of Dust trilogy is coming out! I only know from walking past my local (UK) bookstore, backtracking, going in and pre-ordering. Clear my diary.

Current, I'd say IPA, BA Imperial Stout, Sour/Wild Fermentation.

The downside of Bluesky is seeing loads of stuff I can't get 😅

Long term, I'd say Steam Beer, IPA, draft lager. No disrespect meant, just the image I have from Anchor Brewing, Lagunita's and 1970s-80s films/tv series.

Thanks. We parked up on the mainland after a night on the island, to watch the tide come in so quickly. One day, I'll make the walk.

Playing Carnage by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, cooking fish for my wife after her night out, seems to be the right soundtrack for this.

I finally made some time to go through 5 boxes I store beer. The idea was to remove it all from my memory & let it develop. It worked, I've found the Belgian beers I left to see how they evolve. 5yr old St Bernardus abt 12 had lost fizz but had pronounced aromas. 4 Yr old Rochefort 10 is lovely.

How numerous are they? I'm in the UK and assume they are rare, majestic and silent, but are they just on every street corner then?

Good to see, and an incentive to head back over there soon. It was Zoutelande(?) last time and some great craft beer in one brewshop.
