Those who object to any part of this face an uphill battle:

As with so much else in the US economic system, the profits will be privatized and the losses socialized. The SaaS companies will pocket all the money and individual people will be stuck dealing with the technology generating CSAM, revenge porn, and psychosis on an industrial scale.

Add to that the same economic imperatives social media companies have - prioritizing engagement above all other concerns. This tech isn't going away and I don't think this problem will ever be solved.

There are an infinite number of possible inputs and you have to anticipate every possible interaction that could be harmful. You also have to define what is harmful. You have to determine what to do about it.

We've already seen how difficult this moderation problem is with pre-AI social media.

LLM vendors have stumbled into a commonly misunderstood reality of software: It's one thing to build a technology, and quite another to deploy it in scale to the world.

It's probably more difficult to tune an LLM so it doesn't do stuff like this than to develop the technology in the first place.
