Participants will be asked to take part in two semi-structured research conversations (lasting 1 to 1.5 hours each). They will also be provided with a transcript of their research conversation for their review

GACNS would like to share a study out of UPEI by Guylaine Landry. This study is looking for:
1. people who are 2SLGBTQIA+;
2. Have previously been incarcerated in Canada (federal or provincial);
3. Are currently living in Canada; and
4. Are 18 years of age or older

On the advice of our lawyers, GACNS has decided not to publicly release our report to the College of Surgeons and Physicians.

We will be announcing a project on the advice of the College for accountability in the near future.

GACNS is still awaiting a response from of EECD regarding their intentions with their forthcoming changes to the provincial Guidelines for Supporting Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Youth; specifically, GACNS has repeatedly requested for EECD to clarify its stance on requiring parental consent and/or for parents to be informed of a youth’s intention to socially transition at school. EECD continues to refuse to respond to our requests for comment. With recent developments across Canada, including the implementation of the most inhumane policy targeting TGNC youth in the country, the fact that EECD continues to ignore members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community requesting information regarding their own safety it is unacceptable, and an embarrassing show of government’s lack of commitment to queer safety.

We are calling on supporters of the rights of TGNC youth to email the following individuals: Becky Druhan, Minister of EECD educmin@novascotia.ca Elwin LeRoux, Deputy Minister of EECD educ-dm@novascotia.ca Annie Baert, Executive Director of Student Services and Equity Annie.Baert@novascotia.ca Tim Houston, Premier premier@novascotia.ca

We ask that you request that EECD answer the following questions: Why is the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development refusing to respond to communications from members of the queer community? Will the department continue to relegate transgender and gender non-conforming youth to guidelines, which lack the same legal mechanisms for accountability as an official policy? Will the department require students of any age to acquire parental permission to socially transition at school, or require that parents be informed of a youth's intention to transition socially? We recommend keeping your email short and direct as to not allow EECD to provide a response that does not answer the question asked.

EECD stil has not responded to emails from GACNS and members of the community regarding TGNC youth.
