There is only one way to make this a proper peace and that is a two state solution.

A Palestinian independent state alongside the state of Israel, where both peoples can live in security and dignity.

Mandatory digital ID would threaten the right to privacy in a free and open society. It risks expanding state control and encouraging the collection of unnecessary personal data. @libdems.org.uk will fight against these plans.

I’ve signed this letter calling on Keir Starmer to rethink his plans for mandatory digital ID. A mandatory digital ID system risks deepening digital exclusion. It would disproportionately affect older people, disabled people, and those living in poverty.

β€œTwo years ago, we watched in horror those appalling scenes of Hamas’s evil terrorist attack on Israel. 1,200 innocent people brutally slain, including hundreds of young people at a music festival. Others raped, sexually assaulted and mutilated. 251 people taken hostage, ripped away from their families.
β€œThose terror attacks also triggered a shocking rise in antisemitism here in the UK – a terrible scourge that took the lives of Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz at their synagogue last week.
β€œWe stand in solidarity with British Jews, the people of Israel and Jewish communities around the world against terrorism and against antisemitism in all its forms.
β€œThis cycle of violence has gone on for far too long, caused far too much suffering and claimed far too many innocent lives.
β€œWith new peace talks under way, we desperately hope that they will finally see the hostages returned home to their families, a lasting bilateral ceasefire, Hamas out of power in Gaza for good." Ed Davey

Just as the level of 'the basic quality of what they produce', not on a 'do I agree with this?' basis the Tory party is coming out with stuff far beneath the quality of what the Lib Dems 2019-24 managed when their 'costing process' was 'one bright guy called JJ'. Where does the Short money GO?

In power the Tories crashed the economy, slashed police numbers, wasted Β£700m on their disastrous Rwanda scheme, and pushed 900,000 children into poverty. NHS waiting lists TREBLED under their watch. They should never be allowed anywhere near Government ever again.

On this painful morning, my thoughts are with the families of Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz – the two men tragically killed outside their synagogue yesterday – and with the whole Jewish community who have been the target of a vicious attack on their holiest day.
Antisemitism, terrorism and hatred can be defeated. But only if we all stand united against them. This attack didn’t happen in a vacuum. Antisemitism is rife on Britain’s streets. British Jews have been living in fear, especially since Hamas’s horrific terror attacks of October 7th.
That must end now. We all must come together to make sure our Jewish friends and neighbours feel safe walking on their streets and worshipping at their synagogues.
Those who preach antisemitic hatred, those who incite violence against Jews – whether online, on marches or anywhere else – must be stopped. It is never acceptable.
I know that, together, we can make sure that our British values of decency, tolerance and respect will prevail.
Ed Davey

Tony Blair needs to come before Parliament and give evidence about his role in Trump’s Gaza peace plan.

We all want to see an end to the suffering in Gaza, the hostages brought home and a lasting peace.

Ming Campbell was a dedicated public servant and a true Liberal giant.

His principled leadership opposing the Iraq War was a mark of his morality, courage and wisdom.

But more than that, he was an incredibly warm and caring friend and colleague.

We will miss him terribly.

Despicable from Farage. To equate Trump’s dangerous and unproven comments with the thalidomide scandal is appalling, opportunistic scaremongering.

First Trump slashed funding for vaccines research now he's peddling dangerous nonsense about paracetamol.

The UK should take on Trump’s anti-science agenda and open our doors to US researchers.

Reform making it clear they have absolutely no comprehension of the challenges with recruitment and retention in the care sector. Social care would not be safe in their hands.

A statement from Ed Davey, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, on UK recognition of Palestinian statehood.

A statement from Ed Davey, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, on UK recognition of Palestinian statehood.

Recognising Palestinian self-determination has been long overdue. It is a welcome step, yet it must be the start, not the end.

We need a ceasefire, an end to the cycle of violence and real progress towards a two-state solution.

Right now, Donald Trump is at a lavish banquet at Windsor Castle, while in Gaza a genocide is unfolding.

He alone can stop the assault on Gaza City, end the aid blockade and secure the release of hostages - Keir Starmer must make that clear to him before this visit ends.

What is happening in Gaza is a genocide. And the President of the United States is doing nothing to stop it.

Keir Starmer must raise this with Trump during the state visit.

Current proposals would force together disconnected communities with little thought to existing services or long-term strategic planning. This isn't right for Eastleigh or residents across Hampshire.

The PM must urgently appoint a new ambassador who will stand up to Trump, not cosy up to him and his cronies.

He also can't keep dodging questions about why Lord Mandelson was appointed in the first place, and the extent of what was already known about his links with Epstein.

Mandelson sacked and not a moment too soon. He should never have been appointed as ambassador to the US in the first place. It raises serious questions about the PM’s judgement.
