Mandatory digital ID would threaten the right to privacy in a free and open society. It risks expanding state control and encouraging the collection of unnecessary personal data. @libdems.org.uk will fight against these plans.

I’ve signed this letter calling on Keir Starmer to rethink his plans for mandatory digital ID. A mandatory digital ID system risks deepening digital exclusion. It would disproportionately affect older people, disabled people, and those living in poverty.

In power the Tories crashed the economy, slashed police numbers, wasted £700m on their disastrous Rwanda scheme, and pushed 900,000 children into poverty. NHS waiting lists TREBLED under their watch. They should never be allowed anywhere near Government ever again.

On this painful morning, my thoughts are with the families of Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz – the two men tragically killed outside their synagogue yesterday – and with the whole Jewish community who have been the target of a vicious attack on their holiest day. Antisemitism, terrorism and hatred can be defeated. But only if we all stand united against them. This attack didn’t happen in a vacuum. Antisemitism is rife on Britain’s streets. British Jews have been living in fear, especially since Hamas’s horrific terror attacks of October 7th. That must end now. We all must come together to make sure our Jewish friends and neighbours feel safe walking on their streets and worshipping at their synagogues. Those who preach antisemitic hatred, those who incite violence against Jews – whether online, on marches or anywhere else – must be stopped. It is never acceptable. Recognising Palestinian self-determination has been long overdue. It is a welcome step, yet it must be the start, not the end.

We need a ceasefire, an end to the cycle of violence and real progress towards a two-state solution.

Right now, Donald Trump is at a lavish banquet at Windsor Castle, while in Gaza a genocide is unfolding.

He alone can stop the assault on Gaza City, end the aid blockade and secure the release of hostages - Keir Starmer must make that clear to him before this visit ends.

The PM must urgently appoint a new ambassador who will stand up to Trump, not cosy up to him and his cronies.

He also can't keep dodging questions about why Lord Mandelson was appointed in the first place, and the extent of what was already known about his links with Epstein.
