As someone who’s been around tech people for a long long time it’s WILD to me that this website thinks devs should be their forward facing outreach. Like that dude asking about toxicity is a designer!

It also feels concerning that when asked to define toxicity, he focused on essentially tone policing. It feels like part of this weird zen mode discussion that seems very keen on suppressing any negative discussion, regardless of context

It may have been a very innocent question! But it just feels off due to the timing of everything and lack of comms

Focusing on tone/perceived rudeness/perceived aggression as opposed to the content of what is actually being said, and the context it exits in, does more harm to victims than it actually does to those spouting genuinely toxic things. Respectability politics has never been a good way to go about it

Meanwhile the replies to something like that could be along the lines of “hell no, fuck off bigot” which on the surface seems rude and aggressive, but in context to a proposal of murder it’s a good and correct response!

I think toxicity has more to do with WHAT is being said rather than how it’s being said. Someone can say they want to kill all of a minority with a smile on their face and a song in their voice. It’s still toxic despite how nice and polite it’s presented

I think a lot of people would disagree with this, myself included. I think it would be a good idea to do some research on tone policing, and why it’s an incredibly bad thing. Highly suggest you look at information from marginalized communities specifically when doing your research

Bluesky employees out here acting like they've never had a job before

Is there a single member of the Bluesky team who actually has a professional background or even the smallest clue of how to act like a professional. I would get fired if I used work comms to behave the way any of them have lately.

I appreciate all the people showing love and support to me. I’m so grateful honestly. It means a lot. The ban isn’t that big of a deal for me. I think it was wrong and the explanation was bullshit. But that’s ok and I accept. Social media comes and goes. I’m grateful for all the connections I was able to make and all the people I get to be connected with off Bluesky. More importantly, the world needs more people to give a fuck. More people to give a fuck about Palestinians, more people to give a fuck about disabled folks, more people to give a fuck about our queer and trans siblings, more people to give a fuck about Black liberation. The world, and Bluesky, is full of bootlickers who will do anything to avoid doing anything to upset the status quo. These people are cowards groveling to those in power in hopes of protection. I just hope people continue to show love and care and kindness. Mutual aid is so important. Give when you can, boost when you can. We only survive this together.
